  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

a) St. Thomas condoned the state doing so because of the dangerous social disorder and violeence caused by certain obstinate and agressive heretics in almost totally Catholic nations. For him, the state's primary purpose was maintaining peace and the state could use the death penalty when it was necessary to preserve such peace from those who sought to undermine it and destroy it.

b) Get your passions in order.

c) Continually spreading these videos and needlessly publishing the sins of others simpy causes more scandal and distress. Since there is no reason to republish these sins over and over again other than ranting, continuing to do so at least borders on backbiting and detraction.

d) As God says in St. Catherine of Siena's Dialogue if we truly have self-knowledge we would never be scandalized by anything because we would know that we have been just as filthy a sinner as any person. It is only by the grace of God that we are not burning in Hell for our crimes this very moment. Instead of getting the urge to kill sinners, get on your knees and pray. Again, as God states in the same book, the only way to clean the soiled face of the bride is to wipe it clean with the sweat and tears we shed in praying for poor sinners and for the reform of Holy Church. (as an aside, some of the major problems discussed by St. Catherine were liturgical absues and major sacrileges which were more widespread than they are today and which even rivaled the worst abuses of our day--so the advice she received in ecstacy is right on point).

I'm sick of seeing the Halloween mass video. Its like the 100th time its been posted here.

Yes, these things happen. There have been worse offences in the past. Surprised? Doesn't matter, Jesus is the head of the Church and nothing can phase Him. These imbuciles can no more take away from His power to save souls than a madman can blot out the sun by writting the word "darkness" on his cell wall.

Was that CS Lewis or Merton who said that?

I am so guilty of judging others, and saying ugly hate-filled things about people that do things that upset me and make me angry and not being a living breathing witness to Christ by the way that I life my life, and I am so sorry. Forgive me Lord.
I will be heading to confession tomorrow.

It seems obvious to me that Barney arrived at the Mass AFTER the priest had given his blessing.

Why? Because they were singing what I imagine was their recessional hymn. That was an unusual choice, I grant you.

And then Barney came up and said, "The Mass is "not yet" ended" in order to keep them from leaving, since it was obvious that the priest had already given his blessing.

And Barney gave his blessing. And then they had another recessional, "I Am the Way, the Truth, the Life."

In the context of something that happened on Hallowe'en AFTER the priest had given his blessing, I don't think it is anywhere near as awful as it seems when taken out of context.

Over the years, even thirty years ago, I have heard people try to raffle off cars and numerous other things in the after-Communion announcements. Has anyone ever taken videos of them?

How is it obvious? It may be a possibility but saying it's obvious, IMO, seems a little far-fetched. And in the context of the entire video, I wouldn't be surprised if he had only said that to remind people that singing "I love you" doesn't end the mass -- a blessing and dismissal (however scandalous) by the priest does.

It makes me very, very sad to see people being led astray like this by the very people who are supposed to be there to help them in their faith. The dancing and singing does irk me a bit, but what I'm more concerned with are a couple of the things that were said during the mass.

:sigh: :(

The video concerns liturgical abuses by an impious priest, who by committing errors by promoting a theme of "Barney" is thus encouraging his flock to accept his liturgical abuses as not only acceptable, but as the norm. Additionally the impious priest seems to portray those concerning with liturgical orthodoxy as rigid intolerant bigots, rather than faithful parishioners committed to adhering to the truth of Christ as revealed to his people through his one Holy Catholic Church.
