I am not laying the blame on any side of the political aisle for the actions of wannabe assassins.
Has the SS demanded Harris not have outdoor rallies? I am not aware of that. Why cannot the SS adequately protect presidential candidates to enable them to have outdoor rallies? Surely, there ought to be more than enough adequate resources to do so.After the first attempt the Secret Service asked him not to hold outdoor rallies. He refused.
I am sure they demanded the same of Harris.
I don't admire people who put others at unnecessary risk, including his rally attendees.
The left has been saying his rhetoric is causing violence while they compare him to Hitler and call him a threat to Democracy.Essentially the right wing thinks that the former president can do and say whatever he wants, no questions asked, but the left is always responsible for any crazy that might want to kill him.

I would take them more seriously if they weren't doing the same thing.
Then realize that freedom of speech includes things that you disagree with.I think the left considers those statements true. Should we stop saying stuff on account of there being the possibility of crazies perpetrating violence and allow him to say and do as whatever he pleases?

Don't bemoan his rhetoric while you do the same thing
Not funny. It won’t be surprised if it turns out to be some deranged Swiftie.
Kill someone over something a politician said?Of course he has his freedom of speech, however, that doesn’t protect him from someone angry enough to want to kill him over it. Having said that, I will not go so far as that was this person’s motive. We will have to wait for that to come out.
Freedom of speech covers all speech no matter how idiotic or how much you don't like it.I guess it's time for an ethics lesson.
Freedom embraces responsibility and is guided by virtue; license is freedom without restraint.
Freedom recognizes that we live in a society and must, if we are mature and ethical, consider the ramifications our "freedom" may have on others.
In a recent example, a candidate's lies caused school, government building and hospital closures due to bomb threats and put innocent refugees in danger.
Freedom yes. License no.
What about the ethics lesson when the left constantly and consistently equates Donald Trump to Hitler or a threat to Democracy? Where is the responsibility from the leadership of the Democratic Party when it comes to vitriolic attacks like that?I guess it's time for an ethics lesson.

Trump is probably one of the most hated presidents in history. What about the ethics lesson when the left constantly and consistently equates Donald Trump to Hitler or a threat to Democracy? I simply cannot agree.I guess it's time for an ethics lesson.

He said something stupid. Anyone surprised? The problem isn't what trump said about the haitians, it's that they were flat out racist lies.
Freedom of speech goes both ways. They are free to say whatever they want about Trump but don't whine about what he's doing when you're doing the same thingI agree with @variant. After the first Trump assassination attempt, people were seeking to capitalize on the incident and demand that liberals change their rhetoric. Talking about Project 2025, comparing Trump to an autocrat or a dictator was seen as inflaming people to carry out political violence. While I disagree with the poster in this thread, Trump is also guilty of using the same rhetoric considered inflammatory, but you have posters just calling it freedom of speech.
It's all freedom of speech, let's not attempt to curtail people's speech. With that said, in a polarized setting as we have in the country currently, extreme rhetoric directed at immigrants and the like does not promote that cooler heads must prevail.
When progressives say Trump is a threat to democracy--due to numerous indictments in Georgia and D.C. covering trying to change election results and inciting an insurrection--they are just stating the unvarnished truth. What about the ethics lesson when the left constantly and consistently equates Donald Trump to Hitler or a threat to Democracy? Where is the responsibility from the leadership of the Democratic Party when it comes to vitriolic attacks like that?
