• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There really are only 2 categories?

In my experience most things are a mixture of good and evil, positive and negative, etc.

That's not relativism, though; it's complexity.

Things? What do you mean by things?
Things are either Right or Wrong
Incorrect. Somethings are neutral. The choice of mac-n-cheese as opposed to a grilled cheese is neutral.
Good or Evil
See above.
Positive or Negative
Wrong. A rock is neither positive nor negative.
Fact or Opinion
That's just, like, your opinion, man. (Sorry.)
Correct or Incorrect.
See also rocks. "That blue is quite lovely" might be an opinion, but it is not correct or incorrect.

You never heard of amoral?

Killing other people. Is it right or wrong?

I'm talking more in terms of everything. Like what is the best suit you should buy.

Suit A or Suit B

Correct choice or wrong choice.

Should you adopt Dog A or Dog B

etc. By 2 categories absolute 2 categories when it comes to everything.

Oh, like unimportant things. ;)

How do we distinguish important from unimportant? High priorities from low priorities?

I do it based of my sense, but I really like to know the whole process of it. Sometimes I do wonder, is there something more important I should be doing?

Something like, Should I get something else? Do I really need this thing I am about to get?

Actually...no.

Those things are end points of a line that has infinite points. Almost everything lands somewhere between those points.

It is just what reality is.

That view doesn´t seem to match my observations.

There is no relativism as it seems.
Being able to see the complexity of things doesn´t have anything to do with relativism.

No. This is a perceptual error called Black and White Thinking. It is also called polarized thinking, and can be detrimental to mental health, retarding development of perceptions that can more adequately analyze one's environment and even one's appropriate responses to situations.

It might be good or evil, or neither.
It might be positive or negative, or positive in one situation, but negative in another.
It might be true or false, but no one really knows.
It might be fact or opinion, or maybe description or fiction. But since I can't tell which it is, I should learn how to distinguish between facts and opinions. And some people state opinions just like they do facts, so boy howdy, can it be confusing.
It might be correct or incorrect, but it's most likely incorrect (sorry, that's a joke--"there is only one correct way, but infinite incorrect ways.") There may be many correct ways, and many incorrect ways.
You either have or don't have sounds like a category error or just an uninteresting statement of fact.
You could know some, but not all. That's still knowing.
You could be moral, immoral, or amoral.
