LOL...I just saw the series this last past summer. I kept hearing about how good it was, so I thought I would see for myself. I liked how they showed all the angles from the least to the greatest. The series was done very well.

Who were your favorite characters?

Sure

D'angelo - He was the conscience of the first season, a sympathetic character

Stringer Bell - First of all, he's just a handsome suave dude. You have to root for how he saw through the ego, fighting for corners, all the bulls**t and wanted to get over and be something more, become a legit businessman, going to college. the disintegration of all his plans were characteristic of the show's ability to evoke pathos.

Omar - I don't think this needs an explanation, Omar don't scare

Bunk & Lester - Good poh-lice, you can't help but like them, Mcnulty without the narcissism, Lester's like the father figure and voice of reason, Bunk is funny and gets into shenanigans with McNulty

*People need to know this is an R rated show and for adults.

My favorites were...

Lester – He had the kind of mind that just blows you away. Lester was so intelligent but he wasn't egotistical. Luved me some Lester!

Omar – Truly lived hate the game. How could you not like him?

Proposition Joe – He was old school

Boadie – He had an evolution for me and I felt he had heart

Mentionable others – Bubbles, R.C. Davis

I felt Stringer was both smart and coldblooded (and yes handsome) but he had a blind spot. Him and Avon's outcome affected me the least because I felt on some level I had already seen it played out in the movie Sugar Hill.

What did you think of Mario? What was your take on Barksdale/Stringer vs Mario in how they ran their businesses?

I was indifferent to him at first but ended up liking the character by the end. He's ruthless and bloodthirsty but you can't argue with the results. *Spoiler*He's one of the few characters who gets a happy ending by the end of the series./Spoiler

As for organizational differences, I think Marlo's crew is just a progression of Avon's, like only talking shop in person, in wide open spaces that can't be bugged. Being more intolerant of having his authority challenged, more careful about not getting caught. What are some other differences?

You may want to edit your post so you don't spoil Marlo's outcome for those who haven't seen the show or write *Spoiler* before you spill the beans so others can choose if they want to read it or not. I don't know why I couldn't edit my other post and make it smaller oh well. I thought Marlo and his “clean up crew” were sociopaths. They had absolutely no conscience. I thought Barksdale was more like a “family business” because they were generational and it was inherited so to speak. I thought Marlo was more Corporate America shark style...hire, fire, eliminate, and devour. I didn't know if I could emotionally take watching the show based on its premise but I'm glad I did.

In the drug world, you get rewarded for doing your job well, with the "good guys" you are rewarded for being corrupt and playing politics.

It may seem like Marlo's a different breed, certainly his crew racks up a way higher bodycount. However Avon's crew had no problems murdering, to tie up loose ends, to send a message, for the smallest mistakes.

Where would you rank the show among your favorites of all time? Based on the shows I've seen my top three are:

1. The Wire
2. Battlestar Galactica (re-imagined)
3. Breaking Bad

Yeah but in the drug world when you messed up you were dead. At least when the "good guys" messed up they lived to see another day.

I don't know...to me it just seemed like Marlo was killing people at the drop of a hat. I didn't feel that way about Avon & Stringer. They did what they felt they had to do, but there always seemed to be a "solid" reason. At least that's how I saw it...

I don't really have an all times favorite list. The Wire was good but I liked The Shield better because it was just crazy.
