I have to say that I don’t think the sun and moon were already there. They may have been previously created, but scripture says that He shall cause them to be in the firmament of the upper heaven - Gen. 1:17 (on the fourth day). (Wayiteen = “And shall cause”). If they were already in place the action would have been on the upper waters (cloud layer) to make the light visible to earth and there is no mention of that.

We seem to have a difference of opinion on that but you are at least digging into the Scriptures for the answer. It is strange that I have been debating this for a year and yet I never really knew this interpretation was out there. I think I may have been spending too much time defending Biblical creationism and not enough time on what the Bible actually says.

As far as I can tell youre on pretty solid ground, in fact what you are saying could have some interesting theological implications. If the sun moon and stars were not created until the fourth day there can only be one light source, the glory of God. I read the link you sent me and I am going to try to put something simular together.
