  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought it was an interesting social comment on fear and how it can isolate you. I noticed the color codes too; red, yellow. Not a coincidence, I don't think. Very clever and well done there.

It was interesting, not great, to me, but the acting and the musical score were very well done. Ron Howard's daughter really shined in this film.

Personally, I'm glad I went to see it but it's not one of my all time favorites. Still a big fan of MNS. Can't wait to see the next one he does.

I just got back from seeing The Village, and it was superb. It's hard to talk about it without giving too much away, but if you're a fan of M. Night's other stuff, then DEFINITELY don't miss this one. He's become famous for his twist endings, and the twist in this one is a twist and half.

I just got home from seeing it and I really enjoyed it. I think that all the people who said they didn't like it were really looking at it to be the blockbuster horror movie of the summer. But if you look at Shayamalan's other movies, that's really not his style. It was done very well and except for a few slow spots, did a phenomenal job of keeping me interested.

I have plans to go back and see it again with a friend to see if I can't pick up on some of the subtleties that you miss the first time around.

I agree. Some people are really blasting it! I have no idea why. It's a solid movie!

* spoiler * i believe that noah the crazy dude is not dead yet. ivy says she killed the creature and hurt says he's going to find the crazy guy and give him a proper burial. however, i strongly suspect a sequel where crazy guy comes back to wreak havoc.

i liked the movie. i was not expecting the knife from noah into lucious, but he had a very unusual demeanor about him, even more so than normal, right before the stabbing. i was suprised at how far noah took his passion for ivy.

I saw it, and I didn't like the movie at all. :o

I didn't think it was scary, in any way, it wasn't suspensful, the "twist" was not a twist (my friend and I guessed the "twist" before we even saw the movie, and lo and behold...we were right!), and it was basically, IMO, a stupid movie. :o And I didn't like the fact it was a love story, really...a boring love story at that!

But, I'm glad other people here seemed to enjoy it. :)

Honestly...How could you guess the twist without even seeing the movie?

I was planning on seeing it this past weekend, but ended up taking over the irrigation chore over the weekend and by the time I was finished, I had no energy to bother with going to a movie. So, I’m going this coming weekend. But from the sounds of this thread, it will be on par with what I’ve come to expect from MNS.

I thought this movie was pretty good.

Overall, I was a little disappointed, not so much in the film itself, but in the marketing and advertising. They built it up as the scarriest movie of the summer, the whole ad campaign focusing on the rules about "those we do not speak of". I went to the theater expecting something a bit more suspenseful and thrilling.

What I got was a very quiet drama with a few suspense moments, but mostly, a character study. The actress who played Ivy was wonderful, i thought she was gave a very genuine and innocent portrayal, she definately had me on her side. I was surprised that Joaquin's role was so. . quiet?? They had him billed as the "star" of this movie, but it actually was not so.

It's not necessarily the movie that let me down, but more the marketing and gratuitous "twist" at the end. I thought this movie was standing soooooo well on it's own two feet. When they finally revealed the "twist" at the end, it felt a little contrived and honestly, the movie lost something. It just didn't seem relevent to the rest of the story. I'd say it was a 3 star movie up until the last 15 minutes.

If you go, don't listen to advertising campaigs, go with an open mind and with no expectations.

I just returned home from seeing it.

Unfortunately a friend decided to ruin part of it for me. So because of the little hints she gave I was able to "guess" the way it would end.

But I thought that this film was done beautifully. I agree that I'm disappointed in the marketing of this film. It's not a horror story, but sometimes suspenses can be more frightening. I thought it was very creative with a wonderful meaning to it.
