  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do you know if you committed the unforgivable sin?

I said

There are 5 steps in blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Heb 6-4 defines blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Only preachers that have gone through these 5 steps can blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Until one gets through all 5 steps they will be back sliding. But if one gets through all 5 steps and then turns away. They will never be called back. This can so easily be missused, is the reason I didnt want to post it on a board. The milk understanding is 3 to 4 years long. The meat understanding is 11 years long. At the end of the 14 years one should come to revelations from Jesus. To rewrite his conscience. The conscience being your book of beliefs in your mind. But it takes the whole 14 years to crucify the flesh. I have been receiving these revelations now for 10 years. And if you will look in Gal 1-9 through Gal 2-2 you will see where Paul is exsplaining how long it takes to start receiving revelations of Christ.

BLASPHEMY OF HOLY SPIRIT (5 STEPS)
Matt 12:30-32
30 "He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.
31 "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.
32 "Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
Heb 6:4-6
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,
5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
I Jn 5:16
16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.
2 Pet 2:21
21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.
1Thes 5:19
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
Luke 12:10
10 "And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.
Matt 26:24
24 "The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."
Matt 21:19
19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, "Let no fruit grow on you ever again." And immediately the fig tree withered away.

My thoughts for what they are worth is that if we keep figting against God's spirit speeking to us in our hearts, then we will not be allowing the love of his spirit to convict us and to accept the forgiveness he offers.

In Mark 3, Jesus says:

''But he that blasphemes against the Holy Spirit has never forgiveness, and is in danger of eternal damnation''.

What I take from this, is that when we are fighting against God's spirit in our hearts, it is because we don't think that the change the spirit will bring is good (otherwise why would we not accept it?). It is at these times when we are rejecting the Spirits conviction, not accepting his love and forgiveness, that I believe we are blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

However, I don't think blasphemy of the holy spirit is a once in a life time deal, i.e. you do it and then you are lost forever. But when we are blaspheming the holy spirit i.e. not accepting our sin and our need for forgiveness, then like Jesus says, the one who does this ''has never forgiveness''. For why would God forgive us for when we are rejecting his conviction and his forgiveness? But then there is hope too. We can all at any point STOP rejecting God's spirit and accept his love and chastening and forgiveness and then we do, we will no longer BE blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I think this makes sense in the context that Jesus uses, when he says that those who blaspheme the holy spirit have never forgiveness, and is in danger of eternal damnation.

We are in danger of eternal damnation because we are rejecting God's spirit trying to save us, and when we are rejecting it, there is no forgiveness. And if we continue rejecting God's spirit it is going to be harder to change, we will make it harder to hear God's spirit, and as such eternal damnation is what we are in extreme danger of recieving.

Anyway, that is all to say that I think we can change at any point if we WANT to. I don't think blasphemy of the holy spirit is a once in a lifetime deal, but more a continued attitude, akin to ''becoming like a little child''. What Jesus communicated in his teachings are nearly all a process that we undertake on our spiritual walk, and I don't see anything to suggest that the idea of blasphemy of the holy spirit being contrary to a process/continued attitude. While we are alive there is always the opportunity to change.

Let's all pray for more of God's spirit, and to accept his chastening/conviction/love and forgiveness.
