  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's "blaspheme of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 12:31, Mark 3:29).

What it means is rejecting the Holy Spirit. He is the one who moves one to belief in God, by rejecting Him, you are rejecting God and Christ. Christians have forgiveness because of our faith in Christ. Without that faith (i.e., if you reject the Holy Spirit trying to work in you), then Christ's atoning sacrifice doesn't apply to you, and your sins are not covered, which is why you can't be forgiven.

  1. The Pharisees were making the allegation against Jesus as far back as Matthew 9, in prelude to Jesus' denunciation of them in Matthew 12. This shows that this sin is not a single act but a continued rejection of the Spirit.
  2. Simon Magus 'blasphemed against the Spirit,' in Acts, but Peter said that forgiveness was still possible. This shows that it is not any blasphemy against the Spirit but a specific kind.
  3. As Augustine points out, if we say that blasphemy against the Spirit is any kind of blasphemy, we condemn anyone not raised as a Christian who converts in later life, because all in our time, by being atheists deny the existence of the Holy Spirit.
More later.

If your ever concerned that you may have committed this sin, then you haven't.

Indeed, because concern of this sort is a gift of God. As shown by the Pharisees not at all being worried by Jesus' words but instead plotting to kill him.

I would say that the sin is becoming fixed in an attitude that will lead you to reject God even in the face of obvious divine power.

Great answers Thanks to you all ,
its is the works that are Judged
if the HOLY GHOST be working in you
you have been truly Blessed by the Gift [grace ] of God Jesus Christ whom the Father sent for our complete salvation the witness of the and Spirit of God and Christ working in you
Jhn 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

Jhn 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father [is] in me, and I in him.

Jhn 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Jhn 14:11 Believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

Jhn 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Pauls big clue revelation of both being ONE [Holy spirit ]

Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

being the WISDOM OF GOD giving us understanding .. 1Cr 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

The verses tell what is the unforgiveable sin.

Mark 3
22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.
30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

22 This verse points out that the scribes said Jesus had beelzebub (a demon spirit)
29 This verse says to blaspheme the Holy Spirit is unforgivable.
30 This verse says why it is unforgivable, "they said Jesus had a bad spirit"

So in conclusion, saying that the spirit that was in Jesus was a unclean spirit will never be forgiven.
We know it was the Holy Spirit that was in Jesus.

You see, Jesus only done good works, restoring sight to the blind and healing all kinds of illnesses, and casting out devils etc and yet some said He must get this power from a devil spirit.
How evil those persons must have been attributing Christs good works to a unclean spirit.

You are all very insightful on this subject! Thanks!! There are many who really struggle with the fear they have committed this sin, and they live in anguish over it. I have tried to comfort a few members on here who struggle with it....and it seems like they cannot find comfort and security that they have not committed this offense.

For a while I thought that I had committed this sin. It was awful at the time, but now I see that fear as a very timely wake-up call. Up till then I had been very lax in regards to faith. I am still by no means perfect, but now I feel like I actually care about that much more. It was almost like a conversion!

What is the unforgivable sin?
Could people on here tell me what they think it is.
There are different opinions on the subject I,m just curious what people think it is.
Chris

Answers are found in Hebrews 4,5,and 6 (read together for context), the main verses being:

Heb 6:4-6:
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Luke 9 sheds some light as well:

57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.

60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.

62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. (Remember Lot's wife.)

These are scriptures that allude to an unpardonable spiritual condition, and is a warning to the church only.

Every time a person sins, the feeling of guilt is the holy spirit impressing upon the persons heart that they have done wrong. when a person keeps rejecting the voice of the Holy Spirit, it gets weaker and weaker. Until, by wholly on their own choice they have placed themselves on satans side, and have commited the unpardonable sin.
BUT so long as a person is repentant and sorry, God will never turn them away.A person who has commited the unpardonable sin will not be repentant and sorry.
