• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I have another post under marriage ministry. I think my fiancee has been lying to me about the Dui convictions he has. He told me he has had 2 Dui's in the last 5 years. But he told me he has a felony because of it. I was reading up on Oklahoma DUI law and it says nothing about having a felony on only 2 DUI's. I believe it's a felony if there are 3. I still am concerned about his drinking, he does have the breath alyzer in his car now. I really am tempted to check his record myself. :(

I ended my relationship tonight. I just don't understand how someone can continue to drink when they have to pay $70 a month for a machine they have to breath into everyday in their car. Pay $130 in fines every month for 2 years and have a felony on their record. This makes me think this person has a serious addiction problem. Especially when i can watch him drink 5 or 6 beers and still be sober. And who is to say once he no longer has the breath alyzer in his car that he won't drink and drive again. But that is only part of the reason it is over with us , he has other addictions as well.

*huggles pballgirl* I know that was a difficult thing to do, but it was very likely for the best. It's been my experience when I was a probation officer that someone who was facing all those legal remedies and continued to drink had very serious problems indeed.

I wish you well.

My stepbrother had to get SIX (that's right — SIX) DWIs — the last three of which were felonies — to realize he had not just a drinking problem, but a living problem.

He's going to get 10 years to figure out what to do about his drinking and living problem, now that he's gone to Pendleton State Prison in Indiana.

Oh, well: that was his choice.

i still keep in touch with him and i know he continues to drink even though he is on probation, what is funny is today when i talked to him he said he was on the way to the liquor store and the judge order him to go to AA once a week for a month and to bring proof to court at then end of one month back to court, he got mad saying he thought the judge was being unfair and he didnt think he needed AA, he now has switched from beer to drinking a 5 liter box of wine every 5 to 6 days from what i understand. Doesnt have a problem with alcohol?

exactly. well you know what though? i did this. small story. :(
I had my stomach pumped. The very next day I blamed the label on my liquor as it was 151 rum.I sat down and drank the same type of rum.2 drinks just so I could 'prove' I am not an alcoholic.
I blamed the very fact that I did not know the proof.I also blamed the doctors for putting me through it but I was passed out in and out of conciousness.
Do we even know the truth while in this state? I doubt he does right now. So wow,I pray for him.And you.

I believe he does.

Denial is a defense mechanism in which a person is faced with a fact that is too painful to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence. The subject may deny the reality of the unpleasant fact altogether (simple denial), admit the fact but deny its seriousness (minimisation) or admit both the fact and seriousness but deny responsibility (transference). The concept of denial is particularly important to the study of addiction.

you obviously dont understand the mind of an alcoholic. thats great, go ahead and dump him instead of being there for him or trying to help him. any alcoholic would use a breakup as an excuse to drink more.
