Yes, that is why God gave them in the first place---to show the people that no matter what they do they are sinful and unable to come to Him on their own merit.

God gave the Law to reveal His standard of absolute righteousness to convict us all of our true guilt before Him, so that we would see our need for the gospel.

I know what most people think but it is interesting to note that not only is Exodus 34 the earliest of the three versions, it is the only one of the three to self identify as "the ten commandments" Exodus 34:28

Why three versions? Why ignore one completely? Is it permissible to ignore parts of the Bible? Was Moses losing it?

Actually, the Ten Commandments stem from these two: that you should love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself. Those are the two you need to memorize.

Those are the two great commandments.

I do not plan to cook a goat in its mother's milk. That OT law is easy to keep. I do not steal; I paid for my groceries at the checkout. One of the ten commandments forbids making images in the likeness of anything on earth or elsewhere in the universe. I have a Nikon camera and I have not stopped making images. I agree that I should not bow down to them or serve photographs. I think most people do not worship photographs or images in mirrors. No murder and adultery is standard. Jesus reaffirmed these. It is good to have read Deuteronomy, even though some of these laws do not apply to me. I am not Jewish.

There are "laws" that are "legal" but NOT all are ethical / RIGHT would you agree with that ?

Of course. I think our campaign finance laws are unethical. To me, it's very morally suspect that our laws allow wealthy donors to contribute large amounts of money to political campaigns anonymously through super pacs. But to me, that's a secular issue, not a religious one. Although, if you think that Christian doctrine would agree that this situation is a moral failure, then it reinforces my assertion that American government has rejected Biblical standards of morality.

Actually, the Ten Commandments stem from these two: that you should love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself. Those are the two you need to memorize.

But if one LOVES the Lord they will there for keep the commandments ? if you Love the Lord you will know what he expects of you and you'd know ALL the commandments

Render unto Caesar. immorality begets immorality, some of the politicians thru time have left a lot to be desired and sadly society has reaped what they had sown.

Those are the two great commandments.

I do not plan to cook a goat in its mother's milk. That OT law is easy to keep. I do not steal; I paid for my groceries at the checkout. One of the ten commandments forbids making images in the likeness of anything on earth or elsewhere in the universe. I have a Nikon camera and I have not stopped making images. I agree that I should not bow down to them or serve photographs. I think most people do not worship photographs or images in mirrors. No murder and adultery is standard. Jesus reaffirmed these. It is good to have read Deuteronomy, even though some of these laws do not apply to me. I am not Jewish.

The way I look at it is this: We Christians have a new covenant, and we have different way of worshiping the Lord than the Jews. However, some of the ordinances, or whatever you want to call them, obviously are meant for all of us. One clue is when the Lord calls an action "an abomination."
