Previously I have stated why I do not believe in the accounts by Simcha Jacobovici, of the Talpiot Tomb. It was said to contain the remains of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Using inscriptions on the boxes, and a rare version of the name Mary, if I am not mistaken. I saw the documentary long ago.

Why do others not believe this story or do some think Jesus remains were all along in a tomb in Jerusalem?

This topic has been a struggle for me in the past. In the end the statistics that are used to "prove" it is genuinely the tomb of Jesus just don't work out, they are not nearly as strong as Simcha (whom I respect greatly) wants to present them as. Further, it just does not make sense that he would even have a family tomb in Jerusalem as it was not their ancestral home. The evidence also leans heavily on Jesus having married Mary Magdalene, of which there is scant evidence of that now, making it highly circumstantial and anachronistic.

said to contain the remains of Jesus

The bible say crystal clearly that Jesus, physically rose from the dead.
The witness of the disciples and of the Jewish leaders is that the tomb was empty. It did not contain the remains of Jesus.

Further more the bib.e says that Jesus physically ascended into heaven, so no physical remains of Jesus are on the earth.

The claims about this to bare false.

All true.

However, if one does not believe the NT, or is doubting, claims like the Talpiot Tomb can be convincing. Further, the fact is that the tomb does exist, and it did contain the remains of people with names just like the family of Jesus and, and they did exist about the same time. It is very interesting and reasonably convincing on the surface, it requires one to dig down further as to why the apparent historical evidence is not as sound as it seems.

Personally, if I were a non-believer or skeptic, it would be a tough thing to get past.

If it were the remains of Jesus etc, it would have been documented. Something as big as that could never be covered up.

I believe in the words in the NT. God's words.

My general impression is that Simcha Jacobovici doesn't have the best reputation in the archeological world, and has a tendency toward sensationalism. In this particular case, the original archeologists who discovered and worked on it all accused Simcha of sensationalizing nothing just to make money off of a manufactured controversy.

Two basic facts.
Jesus's home was Nazarth and his family came from Bethlehem, any tomb would be in one of these sites.
second rock cut/carved tombs were very costly beyond the reach of a xarpenter.
Two basic facts that show this claim is nonsence.

Indeed, even some extreme liberal mainline clergy I knew were angered by it.

I mean, liberal/conservative is fairly irrelevant. The matter is simply down to the fact that it's bogus and no one in the scientific world takes it seriously.

Miriam and Joshua are not uncommon Jewish names.

It really is like going to a graveyard anywhere in the English speaking world and seeing graves with "John" or "Mary" on them.
