  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've always wondered why sheep were portrayed as good, while goats were portrayed as bad in the Bible. I was looking at an agricultural website today, and goats and sheep were compared:

sheep enjoy the fellowship of others of their own kind, whereas goats are more independent in their pursuits.

goats like to browse on more luxurious plants, whereas sheep are content to eat more simple pasture plants.

male sheep have a superior fighting style compared to male goats.

any thoughts?

The Lord guides, provides, protects, and so on, as a Shepherd...his sheep know his voice, follow him without question, and are grateful for all he provides, but goats are stubborn and rebellious and if their mind or appetite is set on doing one thing they will even butt their own shepherd if necessary to get their own way. They know his voice but do not care. They do what they will to do.

Sheep know this man is their lord and that their lives depend on him, goats are each their own lord. The shepherd is the only real protection against the beasts of the field and the wolves and lions that prowl about seeking whom they may devour.

Now on occasion some goats do follow sometimes, and some sheep do rebel and try and take off on their own, sometimes, but generally these characteristics rule true.

We are His Sheep and He is the great Shepherd. The characteristics of a goat represent those who disregard His word and His direction and act as if they are lord of their own life (Genesis 3:5) deciding what is good or evil for themselves. People are likened unto these two types metaphorically...

I hope this has helped.
