All my life as a Christian I have always found the sermon perhaps too simple. The sermons seem predictable, I usually know what is coming next. Then as I turn to the Bible, a lot of it is far from simple. Why are the difficult and confusing parts of the Bible rarely mentioned. Almost all of the clergy I have heard make the message simple. Most of the congregation are saved so it's not as if they need to know the often repeated messages etc. Are predictable sermons good sermons, it really puzzles me.

I can relate to what your saying. Even Bible commentaties often don't comment n the controversial issues.

Yet, I've also found that most Christians are interested in the aspects of Christianity that I am thinking about. Then I started to understand that people relate to Christ often thru other ways and issues and interests etc than I do. So I hve to accept those CHristians for who they are.

This leaves a pastor who knows hi flock with a touch situation. He not talk to ever interest that is out there.

I appreciate when the complex parts of the Bible are simplified. Maybe that is the core of the pastor's job, to bring the message to us in a way that we can understand. The sermons at my church are part pre-dictated from the UMC hierarchy (would this be the predictable part?), and part pastor's choice of whatever s/he wants to talk about..
