A sheep is the perfect descriptive word picture. They are lost if not with the shepherd. They will never find the way home, they must be found by the Shepherd. You can leave the gate open to eternity and sheep will never go through it alone. They know the voice of the Shepherd and will never follow a stranger.

JN 10:14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

The sheep cannot be all of mankind because in Matthew 25 Jesus clearly describes the Final Judgement as taking place between two groups, the sheep and the goats. Therefore, I would have to go with "God's elect" for the answer of this poll, though I believe that Don and I would disagree as to the implication of the word "elect".

I was wondering who you believe are the "sheep" of God.

Post Scriptural support that you feel warrants your beliefs if you are led to do so.

God bless,

Good Day, Don

I voted A.- Gods elect. Man there are many scripture to support this view.

(Joh 10:26) But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

(Joh 10:27) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

(Joh 10:28) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

(Joh 10:29) My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

(Joh 10:30) I and my Father are one.

In light of John chapter 6 this is clear.

My favorite verse in this matter has to be:

Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

Heb 13:21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

For His Glory Alone!

Probably, and that is something I plan on addressing in another thread but I guess I'm looking for a starting point.

Thanks for your input though.

But What does it mean to be an Elect?

The elect are people who are deserving of God's wrath but God has determined to ordain them unto salvation because it pleases Him to do so that He might display His nature of grace, mercy, and love in the presence of the elect angels.

God bless

I voted other.

The term "sheep" as applied to men in the Bible is broad in its significance. It's used of the Church (John 10), Israel (Ps. 74:1; 79:13; 100:3), and of the nations that will stand on the right hand of the King and later enter into the kingdom that's prepared for them (Matt. 25:34). Therefore, in its larger scope the term discribes any people who are favored of God.

There's a distinction, IMO, between the national election of Israel and the individual election of the Church. Of the Church (the living organism, not the local organization) none can be lost. On the other hand, the elect nation of Israel will be purged and all that offend will be removed (Ezek. 20:37-38).

If the above is true, "sheep" wouldn't just refer to the elect. Those who, for no other reason than being born into covenant relation with Jehovah, would also be termed "sheep" for a time.

In Christ,
Tracey

John 10 speaks of sheep, wolves, thieves, hired hands, etc.
Couldn't possibly be all of mankind.
I love John 10 for the strong, TULIP- proving message. It's my 2nd fave passage in the Bible, right after Romans 9.
