This is a list of many different metal bands, followed by their country of origin and the style of metal that the represent. If you click the link at the bottom of the original post, you can go to the page that I got this list from. From that original page, you can click the name of each band to see a complete discography complete with album covers and track listings! Awesome! Even if you don't like to listen to metal, it's still worth it to check out the artwork on the album covers. Some of the covers are absolutely brilliant works of art.

Personally, I'm familiar with about half of these bands. That comes from actively listening to metal for over a decade now.

I can think of quite a few groups that would fit into that list as well, but that's not the point of that post.

It's not a match to see who can list the most metal bands. It's a list of metal bands for people to look at, so that they can maybe discover a few band or two.

What's the meaning of "pwn" anyway? The only time that I've ever seen it used is when people are complaining about the kids on the internet who actually use annoying internet lingo(ie. pwn, LOL!!!11!!!!!1!, etc.) when they are trying to claim that they're better than someone else.

hey, Venom wasn't listed. UK's poineers of Black Metal in the early 80s. Anyone here familer with their lyrics?

If you can remember back to the early and mid 80s when we had Slayer putting out albums like "Hell Awaits" and Venom churning out anthems like "In League With Satan," the media was far too preoccupied with coming up with silly false acronyms for KISS and AC/DC



*or in case you don't remember, or are too young. KISS was rumoured to stand for "Knights in Satan's Service" and AC/DC was rumoured to stand for "Anti Christ/Devil's Children"

Heh... You took the words right out of my mouth-- er, keyboard, I guess... "Pwn" is just another instance of someone's misspelling becoming a lame internet-lingo-fad much as "the" = "teh" (= lame).

Interesting list, there are a bunch of groups on it I've not heard (of). Kanks! (Just wait, "kanks"/"thanks" will become the next lame mispelling fad, thanks to my devious machinations...)

I don't know, man... Hand of Doom? We're talking the Sabbath cover band, right? Maybe we're not on the same page, but it seems to me that there were plenty of other bands in the genre long before Hand of Doom existed. For instance, Saint Vitus has been around since the late '80s at least, and Electric Wizard has been around since the early '90s...

i thought it was because of the band death... they created a new style of metal, so they called it death metal...
