  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry to start another thread but I am looking for recommendations of books on having the talk with Taylor.

After reading some of the things in the swimsuit thread I guess we need to have the talk. I am hoping she doesn't know what she does when she wears clothes like that, but just in case....

I don't think she is old enough to know these things, but I do know they learn quick. I knew at her age. I grew up with six little boys next door though.

I don't recall every talking with my mom about it. So, I think it would be much better for me to tell her than for her to learn on her own. At least I know the info she gets will be correct.

Do you really need a book.

We have already started with ds (who is 6) obviously he doesn't know everything but he has asked questions about where babies come from and I answer them as they come up. (at a 6 yo level obviously)

I definitely think if you know what you want her to know and when, then you can tell her that, in simple clear language that she will understand.

No, I guess I don't really need a book. I just don't know how to talk about it. I do want her to know the right information and not get it from her friends.

Yesterday when I got home I didn't like what she had on. I called her in and explained to her that she is becoming a little lady and that the boys are going through a confusing time too and that she can wear shirts like that but she has to wear a second shirt with it. She didn't argue she put on a second shirt and went back out to play.
