  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This popped up on my facebook feed, and I found it interesting. I find it in the same vein as John Lewis' quote about "good trouble."

"Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."

I'm interested in the Christian perspective on rabblerousing and "good trouble..."

Thoughts?

I was listening to a book today about what "ingredients" cause a person to forward or share a story.
The strongest factor was the ability to increase the readers heart rate.
Just to test it they had half the group jog in place for 1 minute.
That worked as well as any other factors like anger or revulsion.

Both prayers seem like 2 sides of the same coin. The shared sentiment is to make the world a better place.

This sounds like something Jesus would pray when up against the Pharisees and Romans of his time, people who are oppressive or not willing to embrace new ways of thinking and doing things.

If this were the reverse of the St. Francis prayer then the St. Francis prayer would be a prayer for apathy, compliance, silence, "too much comfort," "too little action," closed doors, locked hearts, etc.

Last I checked the prayer of St. Francis is nothing like that.

Civil disobedience is a fundamentally Christian act, which is why MLK appealed to so many Christian figures in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Without God there is no justice beyond the State, and no recourse when the State commits an "injustice." As has been pointed out before, this is why conscience and individual rights are a product of the Christian West.
