  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why do you think that Jesus revealed himself only to his friends during those weeks after the Resurrection?

My answer later.

Shalom, David.

I don't think anything in the NT addresses this question, does it? I've often heard skeptics ask why Jesus didn't reveal himself after he rose to those who opposed him. Good question. Wouldn't that be the ultimate proof if he revealed himself to those who were against him?

From Finland.

There are 2 answers that I have found.

1. John 14:18ff...I will not leave you desolate; I will come to you......, and manifest myself to him.

2. This is a 2nd CT question from pagan writer Celsus: If Jesus really wanted to show forth divine power, he ought to have appeared to the very men who treated him despitefully and to the man who condemned him and to everyone everywhere.

Origen answered: It would not have been right for him to have appeared to the man who condemned him and to those who treated him despitefully. For Jesus had consideration both for the one who condemned him and for those who treated him despitefully, lest they should be smitten with blindness as the men of Sodom were smitten when they conspired in lust for the beauty of the angels lodged at Lot´s house.... Jesus, then, wanted to show forth his divine power to each of those able to see it, and according to the measure of his individual capacity. In fact perhaps he avoided appearing simpley because he was considering the mean abilities of people who had not the capacity to see him.
(quote Henry Chadwich, Contra Celsum...from the book The First Day of the New Creation, Veselin Kesich)

Shalom,
david.

Jesus told those seeking miracles and signs of His divinity that they had the prophets and the prophecies, they saw the miracles He had proformed and they still did not belive. Their hearts and minds were closed to truth and nothinf else would prove to them the truth.
(study Luke 11)
God reveals to those who believe and ask. Though there is eveidence of God in the word and in creation that no man is left without excuse.Romans 1:20
