  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I attended a Free Will Baptist church while going to college. One evening they had a footwashing / communion service. Having never been to one my flesh fought me all the way to church that night and I almost didn’t go. During the service there was such tears and shouting, wow! They would pray over you as they washed the feet and it was really a dramatic sight. It was really done decent and there was such a clean spiritual sensation afterwards as I cannot describe.

I would say the quickest route to humility is in the Footwashing service and it is to my understanding other denominations have these type services as well.

Yes, I had to overcome reluctance each time (I think about 3 times now), also, in our Lutheran church. It also helps one to appreciate the humbleness and service of those doing the washing when we are experiencing it. It's one thing for a person to be reasonably friendly in conversation, but a whole nother level when they wash your feet.

I believe the quickest route to humility is to expose yourself to ridicule and mockery for living to the best of your ability a godly and obedient life. Because it is so humiliating, most people have trouble living it to the best of their ability, but it still remains one of the fastest way for growing in humility.
