This is a wonderfull film about the Diana accident controversey. Maybe it wasent an accidet. Most people seem to believe in a consspiracy. Especially when when the Queen herself spoke of hidden forces at work. Helen Mirren stars and plays the Queen so well. Prince Philip and Charles are played by great actors too. So enjoyable viewing and memorable. It makes you more aware of what Diana achieved etc. Tony Blair helping to get the Union Jack lowered in respect at the Palace helped. Go to see it and you will have a wonderfull experience.

The Queen was one of the finest films I have seen in a while. It takes place during the time of the sudden death and funeral of Prince Diana in England, 1997.

Many of us remember that time well and perhaps some of us remember the tribute given by Queen Elizabeth II some time after the accident.

The story involves the interaction between Queen Elizabeth, her family members, and the then newly elected, (previous May) Prime Minister, Tony Blair, over arrangements for the funeral and the Queen's appropriate public response. It is much more than that, however, especially for us history (or better...English history) buffs. It considers the old and the new...the people and their monarch, and the accountability of royals to their people as well as their loyalty to long established traditions.

There is a most outstanding scene when the Queen (played remarkably well by Dame Helen Mirren) drives her jeep into a stream, gets stuck, and is forced to wait while she is rescued. She sees a stag nearby and for reasons we can only guess this brings her to conviction and tears. She then decides what is best for her to do. The rest will always be part of history.

Helen Mirren will undoubtedly win the oscar for this as she has already won the golden globe, but I think recognition should be given to Michael Sheen, a British actor who plays Blair, and James Cromwell who plays Prince Philip.

I hope to buy it when it comes out in DVD.

This is just playing in my area now. I want to see it,but will probably wait for the DVD release. Reading the synopsis of this film has piqued my curiosity into an interest in seeing several of the excellently-rated films about Elizabeth I, the virgin queen.
Weird folks,those Royals,LOL! I suppose no weirder than our own leaders,but they stay in power much longer.

I have heard it is boring but I think the friend of mine who went and viewed this is an air head inside. He didn't want to see it in the first place.

It was ok. I found the story more about the accident than about the Queen. They made her look rather cruel. I did like some of the scenes with her though in her land rover or hummer whatever it is she drives.I learned about her.I didn't know she was so self sufficient.

I found the film good. I liked it. I liked Helen Mirren as the Queen.Comical at times she is.

Just goes to show..what some people tell ya..isn't the way it is. I was never bored.It was like understanding what they went though those days after she was killed.

I felt an emotional deja vu all over again watching this. It will be 10 years since Diana's death this Aug.
Mixed feelings about the film----

It was a fantastic movie. It did a great job of transporting the audience back to the time that we all remember 10 years ago. Then it became a very evenhanded look on the debate between tradition and change. The irony is that Queen Elizabeth was being pressured by the same forces that indirectly caused Diana's death. The fact that the world is ever shrinking due to 24/7 media coverage of every single major event and celebrity is what eventually broke through the Queen's shell and the film got that across with much sympathy. Princess Diana did not want the constant media frenzy and neither did the Queen. It does not offer easy answers but it took someone like Tony Blair to intervene and balance the views and interests of the public and the role of sticking to tradition.

It is an important film which shows the turnaround in the Queen's life,giving the world a glimpse in I would say. They were not comfortable days for her or anyone in the family.
