The Promises of God

We can trust in his words, that what he says will come true.

Numbers 23:19 — God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

1 Samuel 15:29 — And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

Titus 1:2 KJV — In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Hebrews 6:18 — That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

As we see everything he says to us in his word is the truth:
John 17:17 — Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

Psalm 33:4
For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.

So we should trust in the Lord in all things:
Psalm 9:10 — And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Isaiah 26:4 KJV — Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Psalm 37:5 — Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

So now that we established that we can trust in him, and believe that the Lord will do what he has said he will do. We can take a look at a few of his promises.

Acts 1:4-5
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Luke 24:49 — And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

John 14:13 — And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 15:16 — Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Matthew 24:13 — But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Mark 13:13 — And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Revelation 2:7 — He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

John 6:39-40 — 39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Isaiah 58:13-14
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Revelation 2:11 — He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Ezekiel 18:21-24
21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

Revelation 2:17 — He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Revelation 2:26 — And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

John 6:34-35
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Revelation 3:5 — He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Revelation 3:12 — Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Revelation 3:21 — To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Revelation 21:7 — He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

1 John 2:25 — And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

Believe the Father and have faith in his Son Christ Jesus our Lord. His word is true and it will remain forever.

Matthew 24:35 — Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Mark 13:31 — Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Luke 21:33 — Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Matthew 18:16 — But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

Revelation 22:7 — Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Revelation 22:12 — And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Revelation 22:20 — He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Amen. It wasn't too long ago that I preached a sermon on 2 Corinthians 1:3-11 "The God of all Comfort." I explained that one of the sources of God's comfort can be found in His promises. I also used John Bunyan's "The Pilgrims Progress" as an illustration. When we find ourselves getting beaten by "Giant Despair" in our own "Doubting Castles" we forget that we have "The Key of Promise" than can help us escape.
