  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Pope has, once again, declared his opposition to God’s will, and command, as clearly stated in Scripture. This is demonstrated in his present call for a worldwide abolition of death penalty. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-pope-capitalpunishment-idUSKCN0VU0GH

The Bible, which is God’s word to men on earth, a word far superior to any ‘bishop’ of Rome, declares this; “Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed:” (Genesis 9:6). Here we see that upon establishing a new world, so to speak, God enacted a law requiring men to punish a murderer with death, without fail and without exception! This passage declares that death is the only punishment suitable for such a severe crime and that it is always to be the only punishment.

This law was not given to any particular people but to all men, and forever. This is obvious by the reference to creation; “for in the image of God made he man.” Murder is always, and will always be, a direct and vicious assault on the Divine image, first and foremost. It is further the most violent display of the greatest contempt for the Lord and for His creation.

In support of this the New Testament, Romans 13:4, says this, “For he (the ruler – Romans 13:3) is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.” The ‘ruler’ here speaks of the civil magistrate and the sword is an emblem of the power of life and death that the civil magistrate is invested with. This power includes all sorts of punishments that the magistrate has a right to inflict, including capital punishment. It is given to the magistrate by God himself, and it is not given in vain. It is meant to be used!

The Pope, in line with Roman Catholic dogma, imagines that he has the authority, as the earthly representative of God or Christ, indeed as one possessing the authority to act ‘in the power and place of the person of Christ himself’ (Catechism – section 1548*), imagines that he can negate the command of God and its authority over men. Moreover, he seeks to incite the entire world to act as co-rebels in his heretical cause.

Obviously, those who would oppose God’s clearly stated will for capital punishment will make many humanistic and vain arguments against it. To these we simply say; it matters not at all what men think about what God says, it only matters what God says. Men will either love and obey it, to their benefit, or hate and reject it, to their own destruction!!

He's Catholic. He has no obligation to go by your Baptist interpretation of the Bible.

I oppose the death penalty. I DO support using lethal force as a last resort if someone is threatening you at a given moment, BUT as it relates to otherwise I feel that that is up to God.

The reason is that we live in a fallen world, and as such people make mistakes. In this case I mean in sentencing people to death. You can release someone from prison, but you cannot bring them back to life, so for this ( and other reasons I ( and many other Christians oppose the death penalty.

In fact, I have a thread on the subject in politics here if you wish to read it.

As I said, there are many opponents and many arguments. These are human opinions and have no validity before the throne of God. His word, first, foremost and always..Amen!

I’m just waiting for all those that have committed adultery to line up to be stoned to death.

(and worked on Saturday)

(and disobeyed parents)

(and committed blasphemy)

(and contempt of court)

(and bearing false witness)

“Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed:” Genesis 9:6

^ Is that an injunction of the law or merely a statement about how things tend to work**? If it is actually a law are modern Christian (or secular, Muslim, Hindu, etc..) rulers bound by that law?

**Meaning people reap what the sow... what goes around comes around...etc?

Do we live in a fallen world? Do people make mistakes in sentencing? Is God perfect as opposed to humans? I will just be blunt of all the death penalty crimes in the Bible do you believe we should stone people for them? Not withstanding the fact that as a method stoning is outlawed in the United States.

Glad the Pope is speaking out against the death penalty in modern society. It served a just purpose in the past when criminals couldn't be properly dealt with in such a way as to protect society, except by means of execution. But now we have the means to keep society safe from killers (via modern high security prisons) without having to kill them. So there is little justification for it in modern times, beyond simple vengeance. And vengeance belongs rightly to the Lord, not man.
