This idea was introduced to me in a book club last night, wanted to know what others think of it.
The Golden Rule Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
Platinum Rule Do unto others as they would have you do unto them.
The idea is say you are a female and want a diamond necklace for your birthday. Do you buy a diamond necklace for your husband because it is what you want him to give to you ie follow the golden rule? The better thing to do would be to get him not what you want, but what he wants. Of course the idea is to give them what they need which does not always coincide with what they want but most of the time, it does. It has to be completely selfless giving purely for their needs without considering any of your own personal needs.
