This event occured in the southern Oregon mountains. This was handwritten last night then emailed to my wife this morning.
This was written play by play last night between 8:45 - 10:30 pm ~ Here goes...
High Taku style winds blowing, dark clouds...Maybe we should forget the metal shed idea - watching the lightning displays all around on every hill, I don't think living in a conductor is a good idea! I got zapped on Leondas aluminum door once because she had a metal roof...
Oooo- nice one! That bolt had to be about 20' wide... very thick, probably the thickest I ever saw - alright lights out so I can watch the fireworks.
Um - alright - here it comes - big cumulo-nimbus with multiple blasts - I'm on a hill in a metal car - Or I could go in the cabin which is 6 1/2' high wood with metal nails and a metal No Trespass sign. It is hitting our hill about now.
Rubber tires DO ground you, right?
You won't believe this - I looked up through the sun roof and STARS are there! It seems there is a hole in the sky above us and the lightning strikes are all around everywhere except this hill. I mean, directly west there are huge flashes every 15 to 20 seconds - seems there's a pattern - west, northwest, & north 1 - 2 - 3, like clockwork - but it doesn't seem to be touching here.
Funny the wind is blowing the cloud & storm this way but the clouds break up at a perimeter about 1 mile west - the big black cloud is almost on us but the lightning is flashing in the north now.
that cloud is wicked like a black amoeba - but it seems it can't move. It's standing still at my perimeter. Can't figure that with the way the winds blowing.
The cloud is breaking up. It's now a disk the size of an Independence Day saucer. Some angry flashes on the western edge but it seems as the cloud nears me & breaks up the lightning is further away and weaker. The stars glow above. The massive dark blotch is now sliding around to the north. I believe we have shields! Viscious flashes to the north now - the deadly storm has been defied! This is totally awesome! I was actually scared in this one. It looked like constant lightning headed right at me and all around. But not one strike on this entire hill.
Ok - the very bottom edge of this cloud is going to pass over - it's REALLY dark. But it has no power - it only has weak lightning in the north now.
Alright, this insideous thing is now directly overhead! But lightning flashed way to the east. I'm looking directly into the belly of this monster - but it is NOT firing on me...
A little more and it will pass. This thing now directly over me is what was discharging all that intense lightning earlier. Yet it's silent - deathly silent & still - like it's being restrained. There it goes now like a giant sliding black slug in the sky. The stars are appearing en force - wow - that was the most intense and frightening lightning storm I've evr been in the path of with no where to hide.
I actually watched this thing surround me, head right at me, and be blocked, turned north and shielded. I mean the lightning was so intense & frequent it was blasting like fireworks all around. The death cloud is gone - creeping Northeast blasting lightning to the east of me... ~ OK, cool. Thank you God - that was really powerful -

Wheeewhoo Yes! I looked up - thought it would be so cool to see a shooting star - and immediately a shooting star shot across the sky - yeah! 10:21 PM
Wow - that sucker just flashed 2 eyes - ball lightning way in the north - I had stood outside and saw the clouds like a "V" shape fleeing north and raised my arms & said "It is in the name of Jesus Christ you have been averted!" Immediately when I got back in the car it flashed 2 ball eyes right from the head of the V with a bolt under them that looked like a sneering smile. Now tell me there wasn't just a battle of the gods in the sky! That cloud just made a face . I think it was acknowledging its defeat. This was most intense and I have written it as it occured detail by detail 10:30 PM.
(Well that was it... I stood out there like Moses did at the edge of the red sea in 10 commandments and said that, then that face appeared - a lightning face. Gives me chills just to think about it. I know the written testimony of the even probably sounds lame, but to be in the middle of that - the entire sky was charged with power. Words will never explain it.)
