• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I posted this topic on the anxiety thread a while back, but I would like to bring it back up. I am 24 and every once in a while I catch myself wishing I was back in middle school or even early high school...Oddly enough I have dreams more often of being younger again, and in my dreams I am very sad about it. Does anyone else have this issue? Its almost as if I get upset or "depressed" about things that I cant change ie:going back in time and being younger again....
any thoughts?
thanks

Erm I guess in some ways I wish I could go back into the past but only because if I could there would be things I would do differently. I mean I now know where my depression started and maybe If I could change that I wouldn't be depressed now but in the end you can't live like that.

I'm still in school and trust me it's not that great. The way to make you feel better about living in the present Is finding things to look forward, to they don't have to be big things they could be anything like spending time with a friend or going somewhere you want to go. Hope this helps it's the advice that ppl have given to me so I wanted to pass it on

You're not the only one,, alot of people wish they could go back at times including myself possibly would have made changes or better decisions or maybe different goals. We can't change the past,, only to ask God to forgive the wrong (if any) and forget it as He has.. only to bring up your experiences to encourage others thru the Lord. I really believe this is why God said ...
"Forgetting the things that are behind and press for the mark of the High Calling which is in Christ Jesus"

He does not want us to be saddened by the things that are behind us,, and he doesn't want us to worry about the future..(of course there are a few things we are to have in order for our retirement and such within His guidelines) but to worry about what could happen, or what might happen,, or what if.... these things we can't do anything about,, so we are to live in today, and make the most of it, Glorifying Him. Should he grant us another day,, then praise him as soon as your eyes open for another day to live for Him.

Love you in the Lord,, Faye

'I can't possibly change things'.....

think about that for a while. I seems to me that this is a very absolute thought -challenge it - is there something no matter how little that you could change? If so you can challenge this unhappy thought and open a space to move on... little steps will do.

In His service.

Dear Beef, Recently I have been having memories come back in my dreams, all from when I was young... I am definitely not happy with them and some I just am not sure if I want to believe them or not. I know my father hurt me one time but in other times... I don't want to dwell on the past either because you are right, we can't change it, but I hate what is happening to me right now and I just want it all to stop. I just get so upset... I will pray for you because I know how hard it is but please pray for me too because I am really having a hard time with all of this. Best Wishes. Lily00:angel:

I feel that all the time. I look at my 10 year old step sister without a care in the world and would love to have that even for one day

I and my wife have annual passes to Disneyland...why? There are times when I'm there or thinking about that place it makes me cry because it was one of the few places I could go as a kid and escape my world. I was sever ADHD as a kid and this got me the position of class geek with beatings and verbal abuse to boot. Never been to a class reunion but I loved the mtns I grew up in and would love to live there again...talk about a mixed bag of emotions about my school days. It can haunt you your whole life if you don't give it to the Lord....it has worn me out and I think I'm finally at a point that I can let it go. Don't wait till your my age to figure it out. It's over and thinking about what coulda, woulda, shoulda been makes for good ulcers^_^. You have your whole life ahead of you and God has a plan for you:preach:
