The other side of Calvinism

Anyone read this book? Non calvinsit Christians are always telling me to pick it up, I think I might buy it.

I not only read it, but I also communicated with the author Vance who resides in Pensacola and I spent a summer writing a detailed refutation of the book which quite frankly was easy to do.

The book is really very shallow and only proved to re-enforce my faith, but that is no fault of Vance, he is a good author, he just doesn't have much material to work with. Vance is a little strong in his approach and language though. He is in link with Peter Ruckman and Ruckmanism in Pensacola which has been widely condemned as obnoxious fanaticism by the general Christian populace in the United States (including the Arminians).

Do a search on Ruckman and Vance and you will be shocked by what you see.
I'm also from Pensacola, so I'm a little bit embarrased by them both.

Calvin/Owen,

Hi I'm over in Ft Walton Beach just down the road from you. I used to be a KJV only Ruckmanite years ago. I've read the book and still have it. I've been to Dr Ruckman's Bad attitude Baptist Blowout many times. I went once after I became Reformed and will never go back. It's a mess and a blight on Christianity. Is he still alive? Anyway the book is weak and basically a Joke. I wouldn't waste a dime or a minutes time reading it.

Yes he is still alive and blowing out badder than ever! Vance's credibility and attitude (I might add) is weakened by his association with Ruckman, but I guess "to each his own!"

I bought this book a few years ago, and i've yet to crack it open. I believe I have the "revised" version. I have a number of "anti-Calvinist" books in my personal library. I tend to read very slowly. It would probably take me 10 years to work through Vance's book.

I would be really interested in reading your work on the book, or at least having it available. I would benefit, (as well as others here) if you could post a few of your insights into the book.

God Bless,

Sure, I have it in Word and I will e-mail it to you, pls just sent me your e-mail address via Private Message. Also feel free to post as much of it as you like in here. It's too long for me to post it's 290,000 characters long and each post requires a max of only 15,000 characters.

I like reading anti-Calvinist books as well, they are a test for me to ensure I am believing correctly. So far I have found their arguments to be very very shallow (I was expecting more). I think I have given up that there are any good arguments against Calvinism so I have recently moved on.

How does this book compare to John R. Rice's Predestined to Hell? No! Dr. Rice's little book is terrible. I was still studying the subject (Calvinism) when I read it. I was not yet convinced of the doctrines of Grace then, but I knew enough to know that what he said Calvinists believed was very inaccurate.
