  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

All things alcohol related...

I'm frankly surprised at the amount of drinking references figuring conservatives would be more fundamentalist in alcohol use. I haven't had adult beverages in many years though don't really consider it sin, yet it can indeed be a stumbling block for young Christians.

I do have a bottle of tequila a Mexican friend brough back from Mexico, and yeah there's a worm at the bottom ;) I've had it for a few years and it's unopened-figure it'll have a use someday though mostly it's a treasure because of who it came from..

I am a bit curious about wine; my only experiences are with cheap stuff like TJ Swann (do they still make that stuff?) and I was on a flight once from St Louis to Charlotte that was called a "Wine Tasting Flight" (1984 or so) and it all tasted like vinegar to me--the stewardess was a bit appalled that I refused her wine in exchange for Pepsi^_^

I must say that I'm a bit surprised the alcohol thread came from a teetotaller. ^_^ What would you like to know about wine? Wine is so personal but let's start with the basics. Do you prefer white or red?

I couldn't tell you one bottle of wine from another. Sorry. I can't stand hard liquor. But cold beer, grilled brats and football go together like peas & carrots for me. :)

I could back off on my stance of not drinking if I had a nice cold beer and some Baltimore steamed crabs. mmmmm.................

red all the way :)

For non-wine drinkers I'd recommend starting out with sweet stuff like mogen-david or something. Its not "good" wine.. but taste wise its tolerable for most people who don't have a taste for alcohol. Japanese plum wine is also pretty good taste wise.

After having gotten used to wine, mogen david tastes a little like cool-aid :) but its a good starting point.

Another good wine, for beginngers is Lambrusco.

personally I like a good Pinot Noir.

My favorites though are cream sherry and a good ruby port. (croft vintage is good, taylor-flatgate is ok, sandeman is ok, Cockburns is ok)

another good one is mead, which is wine made from honey (and the oldest alcoholic drink in the world).

I've found Cambria Pinot Noir to be to my liking.

Hot diggity dog! Break out the Bailey's and Gentleman Jack for winter.

As for wine, there is something about Manshewitz for an evening, sherry-like indulgence. Maybe it's because it's the first red wine I ever tasted and still the most common wine used for Holy Communion in Lutheran churches. Kosher wine; go figure!

I always keep a bottle at home and was thrilled to find it readily available in the UK, as well. :yum:

We went wine tasting a couple months ago and I found that sweet wine was about all I could handle.

Almost any type of good Muscat worked for me - and I'm sure it's FULL of sugar/calories.
:swoon:
I also can't handle cheap crap - if it's cheap wine I'll probly hate it.

I'm also an avid fan of M&R's Tosti Asti Spumonte

I'm originally from wine country in Northern California and I went wine tasting the last time I was home (I had friends with me who had never been). Instead of hitting the big name wineries we hit the back roads to check out the little wineries. It was alot more fun - the owner shows you around and talks about his grapes, etc.

We found a desert wine at this one little winery that tasted like chocolate. hmmmm

Wine is very personal. I like red, the dryer the better. And I only drink it with a meal that compliments. I feel wine is meant to be consumed with food.

I like Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon, and Egri Bikaver. On the Egri quality varies greatly but a good bottle is wonderful if you like dry wine. I have a bottle of Hennessy Cognac that we break out every Christmas Eve. cognac aficionados may be appalled but last year we used it to make brandy Alexander's. I'll occasionally have a drink when we go out to dinner, but that's rare.

All that dessert wine stuff is HEAVENLY - the only other wines I'm able to handle are blush's... Zinfendales mostly & the sweeter the better.

That's another thing I always wonder about, what makes us like different things & hate others? If I drank what Tisamy drinks, I'd be choking lol
And most likely vice versa too since she probly wouldn't like what I do.

WIERD!
