  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, the US version has always been this funny. I've watched it since last season, and it has only gotten better. I laugh so hard at this show, and it's the rare sitcom that will do that to me anymore.

Everyone says the UK version is better, but... heh, I'm not in the UK and I don't get BBC so I'm perfectly happy with my US version. ;)

I've recently re-watched the original Office and have also seen quite a few of the new US Office episodes so here is a fair comparison.

The UK version is MUCH more subtle than the US version.
David Brent isn't as obviously annoying as Micheal Scott but he is more realistically annoying.

The Tim and Dawn situation is a lot more subtle than the Jim and Pam situation. From the word go in the US office its obvious that Jim is pretty much in love with Pam. With the UK version it takes a lot longer to develop into something that obvious (even though you know it will happen).

Gareth is FAR more believable than Dwight.

The background actors are better in the UK version. Keith or Kevin? NO COMPARISON - BIG KEITH ALL THE WAY!!

Lee is less obvious in his neglect of Dawn than Roy is of Pam.

The flow and pace of the UK version is much better than the US version. This is probably because the US episodes are almost 10 minutes shorter than the UK episodes. This allows time for the boring stuff to happen which is cruical for the flow of the show.

All this being said, the US version is still pretty good and very watchable and very enjoyable and if the original hadnt been made it would seem much better. This just proves how good the original is. It makes a pretty good show in itself look average when you compare them. Gervais and Merchant are geniuses!!

If you have only seen the US version because you haven't seen the UK version on US TV and loved it then get the DVD ASAP!! You will fully appreciate how good this type of program can be.

I'm casting my vote for the UK Office as well. However, the second season of the Office (US) has really hit a stride. The first season was hit-or-miss with alot of material taken from the original series, but this season it has been pretty consistently funny. Paired with My Name Is Earl, it makes for one of the most enjoyable hours on TV (apart from Scrubs doubleheader Tuesdays). Steve Carrell has nothing on Ricky Gervais.
