  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Governance by congregational consensus is much closer to the thought of Anabaptists and Friends. We can trust the Holy Spirit to speak to us through our brothers and sisters in church. Can't we trust the Holy Spirit to speak through our brothers and sisters here, as well?

I think I might try coming back here now, at least to see if I'm welcome.

One big problem is that Anabaptists (where they have not been assimilated by other groups) are sectarian by nature. They would consider themselves part of a little flock of disciples, not part of a large all-encompassing eccumenical movement. So the problem is -who comprises the body among which there can be a concensus-who constitutes this "church". Anabaptists have a high view of Brotherhood, and do not easily regard another person as their brother or sister (only those who do the will of our father in Heaven).

If this forum represents an assimiated, or eccumenical vision of Anabaptism where we hold to the idea that "Jesus loves me just as I am" then it will not be an Anabaptist forum, and it may as well be disolved, or rather, assimilated into a Protestant or Reformed or Catholic or Liberal or Fuindamentalist forum.

Should the Anabaptist forum, then, be composed of a collection of little flocks, allowing each to be as exclusive as they want to be?

How would you institute the Anabaptist practice of shunning in the context of a discussion forum?

:D

It truly takes some to get 'shunned' in an OB church, these days those with an 'issue' shun the rest of the church and walk about bewildered that people are still nice and compassionate to them.

Come to think of it living Romans 12 in that way is a darn sight more effective when it comes to those who have got bogged into sin they do NOT want to repent of.
