The name Sabbath has three parts when we look at it's ancient root meaning.

SAB = Learned Father

B = House of

OTH = SIGN

The name Sabbath in its deepest roots means "Sign of our Father" or literally, "THE DWELLING PLACE OF OUR FATHER'S SIGN" When the three parts are placed together it means literally "REST"

So we can "REST IN THE DWELLING PLACE OF OUR FATHER'S SIGN" by remembering the Seventh Day to keep it holy.

Our official beliefs state that the Sabbath is rest in Christ; not rest in the Sabbath. We are not special for resting on/in the Sabbath; we are special because we love Him, and want to follow Him, which the Sabbath is supposed to be a part of. The Sabbath is His "sign" but we do not worship the sign, lest we get caught up in the legalism of "what to do on Sabbaths." And we all know what happens when some of us see someone doing or not doing something we think they should on Sabbaths. :)

Here is an interesting tidbit from a well known Bible commentary - Jamieson, Faussett, Brown:
Exodus 20:8

Remember the sabbath day — implying it was already known, and recognized as a season of sacred rest. The first four commandments [Exo_20:3-11] comprise our duties to God - the other six [Exo_20:12-17] our duties to our fellow men; and as interpreted by Christ, they reach to the government of the heart as well as the lip (Mat_5:17). “If a man do them he shall live in them” [Lev_18:5; Neh_9:29]. But, ah! what an if for frail and fallen man. Whoever rests his hope upon the law stands debtor to it all; and in this view every one would be without hope were not “the Lord Our Righteousness” [Jer_23:6; Jer_33:16] (Joh_1:17).
