I think you have your memory wires crossed, I don't believe you can get any bigger than his collection.
As far as I know he has every system ever made, and it looks to be an extremely high percentage of all the games ever made.

Well the fact that he has probably 1,000 games should clue you in on him being a gamer.
But there are different types of gamers, and I would say it is safe to say he is a gamer.

He does have a great system collection, but it's not complete. There are a couple early sega systems he doesn't have, for instance. He's also missing a big one - the Neo Geo AES. And he doesn't have a Jaguar CD. There are others I'm probably not thinking of. There's just way more systems than people realize.

I refer to people who buy games primarily to play them, as opposed to collecting them. There are varying degrees of both. I'm primarily a player, with a touch of collector as well.

As far as numbers, his definetly is in excess of 1000 (even my personal collection, which isn't viewed as particularly large, has over 500). But I've seen people liquidate their collections with like 10,000 games.
