The measure of our generosity

Does God measure our generosity on the basis of how much we give away—or on the basis of how much we keep for ourselves?

God measures our generosity by our heart, not by what we do. The pharisees gave money away but they only did it because it makes them look good. We are to give because we love God and our fellow neighbors.

There are times when it may be better to keep some for ourselves to serve some higher purpose God has for our lives, and there are times when God wants us to give generously

The only thing that God looks to is His Son. He doesn't measure our generosity but His. God looks for nothing from us that Christ Jesus the Lord hasn't already provided.

Mark 12:41 Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. 42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. 43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; 44 for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”

...it's what you keep for yourself that's the measure.
