I read something once that suggested there where christians who understood "sola" to mean something more akin to "solo" and was thinking about what then "sola" properly means in regard to sola fide, sola gratia, sola christos. etc, if there can be this 'variation' in how its understood. if one persons understanding (or misunderstanding) could be expressed better as "solo" what does "sola" properly mean, and what did those who first used it mean? Would it do any harm to make it more clear?

Ok thats great, thanks for the link.

I had read a bit about a college based around CS Lewis to be formed and they said too often the bible was read in a silo (grain silo) or that was the effect that it didn't shed light except for the one reading it, and therefore they couldn't really find help from scripture in terms of other things they might read. In effect when they read the Bible they were in "the world of the bible" if they then read the greek classics they were then in that "world". perhaps they would only just read the Bible, and steer clear of other literary works that were not christian

Well I can't claim to be widely read in classics greek or otherwise, I wish I was and understood them. But in reading about CS Lewis and how he was devouring three or four classics every term. I thought how impoverished I am. I can't say I have never had an interest in them (i have on their mention) but at the same time I have often thought should I study these and how do I study as a christian. Of course the problem was that I was barely a christian. So then I'd have to go back to the bible. And you can probably see the problem.
