Exactly what characteristic or belief do penticostals have. I know about the gifts, speaking in tounges and such, but what else is there. I've been thinking about returning to the baptist church. I was brought up in the penticostal church, but when my grandpa died, his funeral was held bye the baptist church. And I do agree the the path to god doesn't lie within the church, but within the heart, and I don't want to upset my dad.

So can someone teach me more about penticostalism?

Well, you already know alot about the Pentecostal Church especially if you were brought up in one. The reason I like the Pentecostal Church is that you can always feel the Spirit of God. He is the one in full control of the church service. We believe in miracles. You feel joy that wants to make you shout and get happy all over the place. The Spirit of the Lord is in the church, and it's the only denomination (in my opinion) that allows freedom to Spirit of the Lord, instead of going through a routine service every Sunday that you could set your watch by, some days you come and the Holy Ghost touches people and many people shout and feel the joy of the Lord, and some get saved, and that's my church (Church of God{Pentecostal}) believes, and that's why I would go to no other church but mine.

Also, here is our Declaration of Faith: (The Church of God, which is one of the oldest, if not the oldest Pentecostal Denomination)
We Believe:

In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
Holiness to be God's standard of living for His people.
In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.
In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.
In the Lord's Supper and washing of the saints' feet.
In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.

:)
The Baptists have good sunday schools as a rule.
But here is some facts about Pentecost and why Pentecostals.

Easton's Bible Dictionary
Pentecost
i.e., "fiftieth", found only in the New Testament ( Act 2:1; 20:16; 1Cr 16:8). The festival so named is first spoken of in Exd 23:16 as "the feast of harvest," and again in Exd 34:22 as "the day of the firstfruits" ( Num 28:26). From the sixteenth of the month of Nisan ( the second day of the Passover), seven complete weeks, i.e., forty-nine days, were to be reckoned, and this feast was held on the fiftieth day. The manner in which it was to be kept is described in Lev 23:15-19; Num 28:27-29. Besides the sacrifices prescribed for the occasion, every one was to bring to the Lord his "tribute of a free-will offering" ( Deu 16:9-11). The purpose of this feast was to commemorate the completion of the grain harvest. Its distinguishing feature was the offering of "two leavened loaves" made from the new corn of the completed harvest, which, with two lambs, were waved before the Lord as a thank offering.
The day of Pentecost is noted in the Christian Church as the day on which the Spirit descended upon the apostles, and on which, under Peter's preaching, so many thousands were converted in Jerusalem ( Act 2).

But if you attend any church that speaks against the gifts of THE HOLY SPIRIT, you are in the WRONG PLACE.
With love in Christ, brother daniel :groupray:

Get out your Bible-and compare what the Pentecostal church believes compared to the Baptist-basically it is no contest. The Pentecostal church is closer to the Bible. That settles it for me.

Amen:wave:

Thats what counts most:hug:

Pentecostals tend to take the bible more literal I think than other groups.. or that is my experience. That's why we tend to actually believe James when He says: The prayer of faith will heal the sick. Even when people sometimes don't get healed when we pray.
Heb 6 have a list I think of the foundations of faith.

For a complete list of beliefs you an go and check the faith statement of maybe the Assemblies of God church.

The really cool thing is that even thought different pentecostal churches will believe differently in small things. People between these churches still form a bond that is so awsome.

Pentecostals are often I think used to simply describe poeple that are crazy for God :)
(maybe "on fire" is a better word)
