The Meaning of Life

hi,

Life is like singing
we sing for no particuar reason but just to enjoy it
life meaning is life itself
life's purpose is living

it is only a belief that existence ought to be explained by its ends and purposes.
in other words, we are the ones who give meaning to our lives and life in general.

learn from nature, an apple tree produces apples year after year without any ultimate purpose other than the joy of fruitition..

And what good are raping looting murdering conscienceless godless misanthropes victimizing the righteous? The wheat will be separted from the chaff, in Matt 13:49-50, Ezekiel 9:3-6, Rev 9:15, Psalm 110:5-6 KJV or 109 other versions, Rev 19:11/19, Acts 3:23. The afterife judgement Christ spoke of repeatedly isn't an optional belief for Christians.
"But whoso OFFENDS one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged around his neck ad he were drowned in the depth of the sea"-Matt 18:6
Few would be special to something that is within both good and evil people as witness, as is the universal spirit.

no one is advocating here that the meaning of life that one of wickedness.
if it so, let the wicked get punished, in this life or beyond.

mine is a celebraion of life. my joys and sufferings are all mine, my success and failures,
my hopes and fears. the injustices done to me and my offenses to others. life and death,
i accept them all without judgment. because that's the way it is.

equanimity is the virtue of life and of god 's creation.
equanimity and love are the same. god is love.
you cannot love and judge
you cannot judge and love.

Dear JD. We are made in God`s image, and when Adam and Eve rebelled against God, by disobeying His loving Command not to eat off the Tree of Knowledge, and wilfully succumb to the lying temptation of the Serpent, they were banned to Earth. Instead of repenting, and learning to love and trust God again, they, and all who came after them, moved farther and farther away from God. In time Jesus came, He told us to REPENT, to exchange our selfish and uncaring natures into loving God first, and each other, as we love our selves. Jesus showed us how, Jesus promised His help and Guidance, and finally paid our debt to God`s Holy Law. Now we are reconciled to God, and the way is open to follow our Saviour back to God again. The meaning of Life is to follow God`s Commandments and return to our original Home, JD, to become as we were, plus having learned to say NO to temptation, and YES to living with our Heavenly Father and Christian brothers and sisters for eternity. It sounds easy, but without the Guidance of Jesus, it is impossible. To follow God`s Law brings rewards and also consequences of a more painful outcome. Life is not easy, JD, but we were never promised it, and Jesus has proven again and again, He does help carry our burden, if we ask Him. I say this humbly and with love, and send greetings. Strange as it may seem the film Gladiator has one line in it that I find rather apt.
"What we do in life, echoes in eternity"
So while I don't believe I have a spirit my actions will leave an 'echo' (I also like to imagine it as ripples or a massive maze of dominoes... ) influencing events in the future. What I want to do is make sure that echo is loud and the right sound (I want my actions to influence the future in a positive way).

That's my philosophy on my meaning of life, however everyone's meaning is different. Life is what you make it.

I think your doing a good job of having a meaningful life, but if we make life influence the future in a negative way, as in murdering people, our lives have the wrong meaning.

It sounds as if you are creating a life of meaning. Being loving is godliness and being harmful to others is godless. If there is no God and no afterlife, then any meaning we create is temporary. If there is a God who is love, then our meaning is not temporary.

And I am okay with temporary. As a matter of fact, it makes what I have all the more precious. This is my one chance. I have a finite time to learn what I want to learn, see what I want to see, do what I want to do. I truly see the world as more astonishing and more real without God than I ever did with God. And while my awareness may be temporary, I will live on in my daughter's heart and my body will live on through the organisms that feed upon it. There is a bit of immortality in that. And it enough for me.

It says nothing of the meaning of life if we are to live forever. It would just be more people on a wild goose chase for some objective meaning of life for eternity.

Furthermore, why must you have meaning or purpose thrust upon you like a slave?

I am not OK with temporary and permanent is better than temporary. Permanent is not less valuable than temporary and this includes love. After the worms have devoured my body, I will see my son and daughter and grandchildren. I see no meaning that matters in worms living a short time off my dead body. They are welcome to it, but I see no wonderful meaning there.

I think there is a singular meaning to life--loving others. Any other meaning is your own meaning, but it is inferior to that one.
