  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know I cannot be alone in having an overwhelming almost obsessive....compulsive.....strangely psychotic desire to hear Matrona DJ. :p Is your station available on the net? If not....will you honor us with a wav of your work? Enquiring ears want to listen. ;) btw.....Alaskan Hidey-Hole Dweller would be a great name to use on the radio.

LOL... good to know that DJ Homegirl has a fan. :)

I don't have a regular show at the moment, because it's summer, but I'll have a regular show come fall. My co-host and I are probably going to take over the world-music show, "The Meridian", this fall (I am going to sneak "Americana" music under the definition of "world" music so that I can still play Johnny Cash and Peter Jon Gillquist (Hi Peter! :) ) ), because the girl who started The Meridian is graduating and is desperate for someone to carry on her legacy.

To answer your question, we do broadcast on the internet. The station website isn't working at the moment, though, unfortunately.

Link us when you have a show.

Aside: Several years ago I found my old radio station on the net and listened to it here in Ga. (the scool in in central Mo.) The DJ had a prize for the first person that guessed the band/song being played. After 15 min NO ONE was able to guess the song so I called them up and won  - BTW, the song was Nantucket Sleighride by Mountain

I used to be a DJ, way back in the last century when we used "carts" and "reel to reel." We used to have to push buttons and stuff, but then they installed the computers, and said farewell to us part-time jocks.

The pay stunk, but it was a good time, except I about went crazy hearing the same songs every 90 minutes...

The world would be a better place if more DJ's played more Johnny Cash! You should also make sure that Bob Dylan is played thrice an hour, or more if possible.

Sounds cool Matrona. I too Dj, my partner in crime and myself do a show called "Soul Food" at INBN It's a 3 hour tour, er I mean show in which we do a lot of eclectic styles during the first hour, a featured artist in the second, and readings from the ECFs in the third. Timing is random right now as the station is broadcasting in BETA mode.
Please do give us a link when it's time for your show ;)

Here is a yearbook photo of me ca 1981. I'm the tallest in the back.
I don't know many people that are so brave as to post a yearbook picture for everyone to see....much less those of us who remember the 80s.:)
All I have to do is remember those stirrup stretch pants I used to wear and I shudder.

Ah ... carts :) we used to have fun making weird station promos to put on the carts. The only thing we really used the reels for was some NPRish stuff, a radio drama/fiction series called 'The Mind's Eye' and stuff like Dragnet.

Being non-commercial we could play anything in our 18,000 album collection. from what I hear, they have one of the biggest archives of vinyl in existence in the Midwest area .

You're with INBN? That is so cool. I had DSL installed at the office specifically so I could have INBN playing, and not tie up a phone line. Mad props to you guys!

Yes James. INBN is a ministry of our tiny parish, under the omniphron of His Emminence, our Archbishop JOB. Thank you, it's so good to know! I'll let Fr. John know too, he is easily amused and excited, We are just waiting for the finances to obtain the necessary software to make it more streamlined and to actually set up times for everything to run. (obviously I'm not the technical brains of the outfit!) We also need to individually free up the time to do readings etc. that will be a regualr part of the programming.
THANKS AGAIN!

 It is really annoying to have a site refuse you access unless you dump their spyware player on your machine. People have really gone data mad. Anyhow....I guess I won't get to listen....boooo hooooo. :sigh:
Twosid,
Sorry about that, we're poor fledglings right now. What would you suggest so that we can consider moving that way in the future?
Under His Mercy,
Eusebios.

It is just my personal preference to not visit sites that demand I download their cookies or spyware. Windows/Linux/ all have available players that will stream audio/video without downloading a new one (+the code for the spyware) to your machine for every site that you visit. I go to great lengths to keep that stuff off my machine. IMO you should make your station available for standard MP3 players.....Windows Media Player/Real Player etc. If you want to track usage create a free or pay login but to do it the other way IMO is underhanded. Most folks could care less or aren't even aware of it so it will only get you the purist such as myself as a listener and I imagine we are few and far between. It is also your business (and not mine) if you want to make it a requirement that people do it in order to listen for free. I see a trend in this however that there are more and more and more places I'm restricted from because of it....thats ok though...thats my choice.

Actually, I use Realplayer to listen to INBN. It was kind of complicated, but IIRC I signed up at www.live365.com, and then made Realplayer the default program. Thro Live365, I found INBN, and then turn it on. So I bypassed whatever proprietary thing they were pushing.

James

P.S. -- Or maybe I opened Realplayer, and then opened Live365 in its browser, thus reaching the station. I've slept since I set it up, so I don't remember that far back.
