• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am in the process of reading Jordon Rubin's new book called "The Makers Diet". Jordon has one wild testimony that is a true testiment to his faith in God.

He is basically recommending the diet that came straight from the Scripture and applying it to today's world. So far...it has been a real eye opener for me.

Has anyone else read this book or better yet, taken his recommendations on dieting?

The Maker's diet consists of eating organic foods and following a strict old Testament diet - no shellfish, pork, or other unclean animals. Unfortunately, although Jordan Rubin has clearly been touched and healed by God through his diet (he was dying of Chrohn's and other ailments), the book is basically one long advertisement for his very EXPENSIVE line of supplements, some of which may be very good. He recommends eating some dirt, or breathing it, rolling around in it or eating his soil supplements which are quite expensive.

I would read the book, and perhaps buy the soil supplements (unless you like to eat dirt or garden frequently), but forget about the others supplements, or buy cheaper off-brand substitutes.

The whole diet is rather expensive because organic meat and produce are expensive. So is kefir, which he also recommends highly.

The only thing that's worked for me is a modified Atkins.

Yep, you pretty much nailed it. His product line is quite pricey!

I do agree with his theory about all the junk that we put in our bodies. I agree that we need to be a little more picky about the meats that we eat and I too think that that we need to spend more time outside in the dirt and in the sun....as well as with the Son. :prayer:

There is no way that I can afford his diet plan out right, but I started putting his princibles into play. My wife can already tell a big difference. She has had some problems with her digestive system in the last year and she tells me that it is much better already this week. I will keep you posted as we progress.

Oh...I did find some better prices on Coconut Oil for cooking. Found it on Ebay of all places.

Let me know how this works out, because I have been trying to incorporate some of The Makeres diet principles into my Atkins (low carb) diet. BtW, the coconut oil I purchased separates. If your wife has digestive problems, the Makers is probably perfect for her because Rubin was dying from his digestive ailments.

Per the web site....
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil® is one of the healthiest and most versatile unprocessed dietary oils in the world. Once thought to be a “bad” fat, coconut oil has been proven to be a stable, healthy saturated fat that can provide many benefits when used as part of a healthy diet.

Yep, that is what caught my eye when I seen it.

Myself....I have been battleing with weight loss for about 10 years now. I have lost about 40 pounds in the last year snd a half by just taking on the ole "Eat Right and Exercise" diet. The only problem is that what I thought was eating right wasn't exactly right. While I have never really ever had any health problems, I just wasn't gaining any energy with my weight loss. My prayer is that with the more Natural foods, this will come.

We will see, I guess.
