  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

In print, I recommend Keith Mathison's Given for You: Reclaiming Calvin's Doctrine of the Lord's Supper. R.C. Sproul calls it a "must read."

Online, I recommend Mike Horton's "Mysteries of God & Means of Grace," which addresses both sacraments.

Calvin's "Short Treatise on the Lord's Supper" is also very helpful.

Of course, it never hurts to read what the Reformed confessions (like the Westminster Standards, 3 Forms of Unity, Second Helvetic, Scots Confession) have to say about the Supper.

Can anyone recommend some good resources (online or print) on the Reformed view and practice of Communion?

Thanks,

How about Chapter 29 of the Westminster Confession of Faith, Of the Lord's Supper, 8 paragraphs with proof texts.

Thanks,
I had assumed you were asking about the theological meaning and spiritual power of the Supper, which I think Calvin's "Short Treatise" is a good resource.

Calvin's Commentaries at 1 Cor 1:2 and 1 Cor 11:17ff are a useful resource to review.

I think there are useful sections of the Institutes on this as well, though it is something of a summary.
