33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

Jesus ascended or had risen to His Father!
This was on the first day the disciples discovered the empty tomb!

I believe Jesus' ascension to the Father is a part of His resurrection or in Him being risen. So in a way, I agree. But in another way, I disagree because I do not believe Jesus rose from the dead on Sunday.

I believe Jesus physically rose from the grave and went out from the tomb on Saturday at 3:00PM exactly (with a 3:00PM death on Wednesday). This would be 3 days and three nights exactly! 72 hours. They discovered his empty tomb on the first day of the week (Sunday), and then Jesus ascended (risen) to the Father to enter the temple by His blood and become our Heavenly high priest (So as to be our mediator between God the Father and mankind).

There are two ascensions. Jesus ascended a first time when He told Mary not to touch Him. He told Mary to tell the other disciples that He ascends to His Father (See: John 20:17). Then Jesus ascended a second time (in front of many witnesses) after returning and being with his disciples for 40 days.

Oh, jolly good idea there mate, to "examine Scripture to find out what the Lord's day is"!

I voted "other", as in scripture, there is no "Sunday", and neither "Saturday" texts. The bible from Genesis speaks of 1-7 and evening and morning. Both of the other designations are really pagan in origin and not of the same chronological time keeping. The sabbath in scripture, as you mentioned, is the seventh day, as Genesis and Exodus and so many other texts so clearly state.

Now to the issue of what is "the Lord's day" in Revelation 1:10, well, as you have said we ought to "examine Scripture to find out".

This is an evening meeting, after Sabbath was over, for we see lights, and evening meals being eaten, and timeframe of preaching to Midnight and beyond. In fact, Paul travels some 19-21ish miles (from Troas) to the next city, Assos, by foot during the morning time. There is no “Sunday” service here. The day, scripturally begins at “evening” (Genesis 1, etc), and thus it is technically what the western mind would call “Saturday night”.

There is no continual pattern here, as it is a special meeting and farewell for Paul, who is forever leaving them, and because of the events of Eutychus.

The disciples eat a common meal, as they did every day (Acts 2 & 5), for there is no mention of the “cup”, “Lord's table or supper”, “footwashing”, “fruit of the vine”, etc. The phrase in koine Greek is again demonstrative that the 7th day the sabbath is the culmination of the week, “εν δε τη μια των σαββατων”, as every single “first [day]” text reveals. There is no special designation for the day and Luke wrote this years afterward. There is no continual pattern. This is a one-off event amidst a series of one-off events.

Even as a pattern, it is at night time, held until midnight and beyond. Do they really follow this as an example in their practice, and if not, why not?

This is instruction by Paul, for the believers to gather their special collection offering for the poor in the dearth (famine) in Jerusalem, etc., at home by themselves ("every one of you (individual) lay by him (that is personal, at home) in store (personal storehouse)") and when Paul came by, they were to all have it ready for him and others to take.

There is no church meeting here. It is a personal matter to be dealt with at home after Sabbath was over. Also, the instruction was specific to the needs in Jerusalem in the time of famine. It was a special collection for those saints in the trouble. There is no mention of "worship", "temple", "synagogue", "house to house", "meeting", "Lord's supper", "breaking of bread", etc here. There is no continual gathering "together" here either, as the instruction was to do this personally, individually at home (even the koine Greek is clear on this).

Yet, again in the koine Greek, we see yet once more that the 7th day the Sabbath is still (and always) the culmination of the week, while the 'first [day]" is still simply a number in relation to God's rest, "κατα μιαν σαββατων".

The word "κυριακη" (translit. "kuriake") is an Adjective - Dative - Singular - Feminine. This means it is being used as a 'possessive' ("of", see 1 Corinthians 11:20, "the Lord's supper"), which means the "day" in context belongs to "the Lord". It is literally "the Lord's (belonging to) day". This means, that the "day" in context is uniquely "the Lord's" out of all the 7 days of the week, for the day under consideration is that which exists within the week, as a day which repeats weekly. This is extremely important, as those who incorrectly assume it to mean "the first [day] of the week" in lieu of Jesus' resurrection, cannot get a weekly occurrence out of a one-time event, in fulfilment of typology of the Firstfruit/Wavesheaf in Leviticus 23:9-14, as made known in 1 Corinthians 15:20,23..

This is not as the phrase "day of the Lord" (ἡμέρα κυρίου) which is written in the genitive masculine case (see 2 Peter 3:10, etc, and also so called septuaginta uses).

In Latin, we see it similarly used in Exodus 20 (Latin is without the definite article, as Latin does not use definite articles):

Whereas the differing apocalyptic day, "the day of the Lord" in Latin is "dies Domini" as in Zephaniah 1:14:

In Isaiah 58:13, we read of a "day" that "the Lord" specifically calls "my day":
Isa 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy [day] of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

In many translations of Isaiah 58:13 we read that the 7th day, the sabbath of the Lord, is said to be "the Lord's holy day", with the word holy being another adjective, while the "Lord's" is possessive. - /Isaiah 58:13 - Bible Gateway

Thus when reading Isaiah 58:13 with simple pronoun substitution, it would read "... the ... [Lord's] day ...", just as it does in Exodus 20:8-11. John cited this text, in the midst of citing a series of OT texts, in a chiastic structure.

The context shows that the "day" spoken of, in each texts presented is "the LORD('s)". John as a physical Jew, who was following the Messiah (Jesus), thus a Christian, was on the Isle of Patmos, for what reason?

Rev 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

Rev 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

It is even given in other places:

Rev_6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

Rev_20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

What is this "word of God" and the "testimony/witness of Jesus"? We do not have to in any way guess, for John tells us in parallel fashion:

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

This is found way back in the OT:

Deu_4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

So, when John references "the Lord's day", it is in the context of "the word of God", which are God's Commandments. Well, which commandment then? Again, we do not have to guess, for John tells us:

Rev 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

What specific commandment, was John citing? The 4th Commandment, specifically, Exodus 20:11,

Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The whole Commandment:

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

That little word "of" is possessive. Thus when God speaks, by His own voice, the He (the LORD) has chosen a specific (definite article) "day", it is thus "the LORD('s) ... day", being His sabbath, the 7th day, from the foundation of the world in Genesis 2:1-3, where therein it is "God('s; the LORD's) ... day".

The "word of God" = God's commandments:

Isa_1:10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

and the "testimony of Jesus" is the Spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10), and as found all throughout scripture:

2Ki_17:13 Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

Psa_19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

Psa_78:5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children

Pro_29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. :

Isa_8:16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

Isa_8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Lam_2:9 Her gates are sunk into the ground; he hath destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.

Eze_7:26 Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.

Therefore, notice again the connection of the Apostle and prophet John, who receives a "vision", in connection with keeping God's commandments, and was resting specifically on "the LORD's day":

I agree with this.

Act 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

This is an evening meeting, after Sabbath was over, for we see lights, and evening meals being eaten, and timeframe of preaching to Midnight and beyond. In fact, Paul travels some 19-21ish miles (from Troas) to the next city, Assos, by foot during the morning time. There is no “Sunday” service here. The day, scripturally begins at “evening” (Genesis 1, etc), and thus it is technically what the western mind would call “Saturday night”.

There is no continual pattern here, as it is a special meeting and farewell for Paul, who is forever leaving them, and because of the events of Eutychus.

I noticed you quoted a lot of references from the Old Testament in defense for keeping the Sabbath as the Lord's day. We are not under the Old Covenant or Old Testament anymore, but we are to follow Jesus and His followers as laid out in the New Testament. Yes, the Old Testament is instructional and useful, too; But it is not the covenant that we are under. We are under a New Covenant with New Commands that come from Jesus and His followers.

Jesus said:

“No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.” (Luke 5:39).​

Jesus was criticizing those who were saying the old was better.

Again, there is a vast difference between the Lord's day mentioned in the Old Testament, vs. the New Testament. The words “sons of God” referred to angels in the Old Testament, but in the New Testament, we see this is in reference to believers. Things change. The Lord instituted a change when He raised from the dead. They gathered on the first day of the week, and not the last day of the week. This was to show an obvious change in God's new covenant program.

Yeah, just imagine the horror of Paul seeing someone cite a bunch of old-dusty-worn out and long since forgotten OT texts to defend anything, like a resurrection or something like that. I am sure glad we have Paul as a model Christian and he would never use ... O wait a minute ...

There are two ascensions. Jesus ascended a first time when He told Mary not to touch Him. He told Mary to tell the other disciples that He ascends to His Father (See: John 20:17). Then Jesus ascended a second time (in front of many witnesses) after returning and being with his disciples for 40 days.

I guess that's the thinking all right. It seems as though a few, at least, of the well-known denominations would hold that view if it were that obvious and yet, to my knowledge, none of them do.
