  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone heard the Bible on CD or MP3 and read along? Have you found it useful? I purchased the MP3 version of the Listener's Bible by Max McLean. I've been listening at work but came up with the idea that I should read along because I'm able to remember better the more of my senses I use. My plan is to read thru Romans every night for a month and then switch to another book.
Anyhow, the MP3's are great because it's so nice to hear someone read the words of G-d the way Max does. I received my ESV RSB yesterday and the MP3's are the ESV as well so they naturally compliment each other well. Theses recordings give a new meaning about "hearing from the word of G-d".

Any thoughts or ideas? This is just my reading not my study. My wife and I are beginning a study on predestination we found on the web. 6 week course with a syllabus and MP3 files of the professor...good stuff. I'm also reading beaucoup articles from monergism.com, spurgeon archive & jonathan edwards. Got alot of catching up to do.

Where are you at with the doctrine of our universal sinfulness? Untill I acknowledged that my sin had always presented a greater barrier to God than I could ever hope to cross, I didn't accept predestination or election or any of the rest.

In case you are undecided or unclear about that one, the rest will more difficult.

I think its a great idea to listen as you read. Some people are more inclined to reading, some more to hearing. Hitting both points at the same time is a great idea!

Romans 10:17
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

I have the whole Bible in KJV Dramatised (Zondervan) and I have the NT in KJV by Alexandre Scourby. I have listened to the majority of the Bible while driving from one site to another during my job. It is wonderful to be able to keep God's word in my head at all times. I have recently started something a little different. I have typically either listened to all Bible, or only sermons from www.sermonaudio.com. I have recently started doing something like this:

Tracks 1-3 Old Testiment book (currently 2 Samuel)
Track 4 from the Psalms
Track 5 A sermon
Track 6 from the Psalms
The rest of the CD Between clips of Pilgrims Progress and a New Testiment book (currently Galatians)

I feel that the variation helps tremendously.

Hope this helps anyone!

I'm a formal Catholic so being universally sinful isn't a big stretch. Better said is I was raised as a Latin Catholic who are raised to believe how utterly sinful and condemed we are...well at least I was. It was difficult when I began to hear how I deserve grace and what not...just was too confusing to me. I thought I was brainwashed in the Catholic church but I see my mom got that one right.

So, to answer your question I'm fine with universal sinfulness...or at least I think I am. I've actually accepted predestination and election...just makes sense. Even before I knew of any of this I quesitoned why there appeared to be 2 G-ds. The OT G-d and then the new & improved NT G-d...with all the stuff I've been learning as of late Calvinism just makes sense.

I'm reading the debates on the soteriology threads and see too many fallacies of logic with the other theologies...but I'm new.
