The Lineage of Christ

Hi all

In the opening chapter of the Book of Matthew, Jesus is ascribed to being a descendent of David's son Solomon, but in Luke chapter three Jesus is ascribed to being a descendent of David's son Nathan. Why the difference?

one follows Josephs' lineage, the other Mary's.
