The veracity of Moses and especially of that of Jesus Christ must be held up by Christians who believe that scripture is divinely inspired and without error. "Error" however, is not kept completely from copies of manuscripts or from translations that have been made over the years. But problems that do exist in obtaining a truthful picture of what the Lord and the authors of scripture gave us is found in the preponderance of manucripts that are available. Once the doctrine of inspiration/inerrancy of that which the Holy Spirit inspired is firmly intact in the believers mind and heart, then the obvious conclusions about what appear to be mistakes become apparent with research, archeological findings, and discoveries.
For instance, the liberal skeptics of the 1800's attacked the fundamentalist position of inerrancy as it relates to the ancient Hittites mentioned in the O.T. claiming that there was no evidence that such a nation even existed, let alone that it was an empire. But before the close of the 19th century the spade of the archeologist proved them dead wrong and the Hititte empire was uncovered for all to see.
So it was with the prophecy of Tyre which the prophets said would be destroyed and never rebuilt (Ezekiel 26:14) and that it would be merely a place where fisherman spread their nets on the Mediterranean sea shore. To this day skeptics scoff at this 'mistake' by the prophet. Yet the prophets were accurate. The people of Tyre, threatened by invading hordes abandoned their city to an island about a half mile off the coast and settled their for protection from their enemies. The old city was 'scraped like the top of a rock' by Alexander the Great and never rebuilt. Today that same place is not rebuilt but the new city that was built on the island still exists:
"In ancient times it was situated on an island, but from the time of Alexander the Great... the city has been linked to the mainland by a dike..." Wikipedia.
" built no more--fulfilled as to the mainland Tyre, under Nebuchadnezzar. The insular Tyre recovered partly, after seventy years (Isa 23:17,18), but again suffered under Alexander, then under Antigonus, then under the Saracens at the beginning of the fourteenth century. Now its harbors are choked with sand, precluding all hope of future restoration, 'ot one entire house is left, and only a few fishermen take shelter in the vaults'[MAUNDRELL]. So accurately has God's word come to pass." Jamieson, Faucett, and Brown.
The prophet got the last word. He should, for He was inspired by God to say what he said and the prophets were never wrong in their prophecies.
Moses taught that there were 'giants in the earth in those days' Genesis 6:4
There have been skeptics a-plenty on this point as well as the scriptural mention of 'talking snakes, unicorns, and fire breathing dragons', all of which I either have touched on or will mention as I proceed.
But giants have existed throughout history, some of them comparable to Goliath of old.
Pertrussan, the Scandanavian giant, 8'5 inches tall.
Stadnick the Russian, also 8'5. He could change a light bulb in his living room without standing up.
Trintje Keever from the Elizabethan Period: 8'4 inches tall.
Väinö Myllyrinne, about 8'2.
John Rogan, 8'9.
Robert Wadlow of Alton, Illinois: 8'11 inches tall.
Johann Aason in a comparison photo to Shaquille Oneal. Oneal stands 7'1 and the man next to him is about 5'11. After his death Aasen was measured at 9'2 inches by the Mendocino State Hospital making him nearly the height of the giant Goliath as mentioned in I Samuel 17:4.
So in the end of all consideration the Bible once again is seen to tell the truth and the skeptics have egg on their faces.
These things make all the evidence of giants in the past much more credible.
