  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've actually been very interested in the the general theme of the life of Faith. Outside of Pilgrim's Progress and maybe some works of C.S. Lewis like the Chronicles of Narnia this sort of metaphor seems a bit under utilized compared to the secular world and especially the New Age (Where there are lots of self help books that use it etc.).

Anyway for those of you familiar with Joseph Campbell's work, like the Heroes Journey, and mono-myth in general what do you think of adapting it for Christian story telling? especially in the self help arena?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about (in the Christian context)
The Hero’s Journey as Divine Blueprint

PS - I am not talking about strict Jungian Psychology for folks that want to rebut the idea based on that kind of objection (since liberal theologians in the past have embraced it for those reasons).

for folks that like videos here is a short little one based on the general concept.

PPS - I don't think this pattern of formula is useful for looking at the life of Christ, but it does fit people like Moses, and Gideon, and other folks of the Bible and I think it is a nice concept when people talk about problems like Theodicy aka "Why did God allow this bad thing to happen to me?"
