2 Thessalonians 2:13,14 But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

1 Corinthians 15:23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, (then at his coming those who belong to Christ)

Romans 8:11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Colossians 1:18 And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

Ephesians 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Something most people forget to consider is that from Jesus Christ's Resurrection to Constantine (Ruled from 306AD - 337AD) Christians were slaughtered in many fashions, in droves!
Hebrews 11:36 Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.
Hebrews 11 is in past tense. It leads up to the Revelation that all of those that are mentioned in the Chapter didn't receive Heaven, until Jesus was Resurrected.
Matthew 27:53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection...
So, here comes the genuine question. God equipped the Sainted Sinners on this earth with HOPE so strong that it was promised to prevail against the very Gates of Hell. (The system of death and the realm of the dead.) Do you believe that the Saints believed that they would be "asleep" in the earth, bodies dead and decayed to dust, their souls completely unconscious, OR that they would never die, but merely transcend their Mortal coils upon death, to be with Jesus, that very day? How strong do you believe their HELMET OF SALVATION had to be, to face being sawn in two? Most Western doctrine is written from the perspective of complacency. Do you believe that Christians are Death Defiers or captive by death?

Christian mortalism, the belief that the soul either dies or sleeps between death and resurrection, dates back to the early Reformation and was a minor but influential heresy by the 1590s. It had followers such as Luther, Thomas Browne, and John Milton.

The opposite of Christian mortalism is the belief in the immortality of the soul, which was established in early Christianity by the 3rd century. Early Christian philosophers believed that God created the soul and infused it into the body at conception. This belief was accepted by theologians in the Middle Ages and after the Reformation.

We are not immortal ... we don't become immortal and receive eternal life until Jesus returns (1st resurrection) ... the bible is very clear about that.

@Grip Docility the AI decided to take an Orthodox perspective on this:

The Orthodox Christian belief regarding the state of the saints after death is a mystery and a profound gift given by God, as mentioned in the excerpts provided. It affirms that the soul of the departed believer lives in God, who is a God of the living not of the dead. However, it often refers to the state of the faithful Christian after death as a 'time of repose'. The Orthodox believe that saints are indeed alive in Christ and can guide and protect them. They do not view the saints as being captive to the power of death but rather as having transcended mortality upon their passing, joining Jesus. This belief is rooted in the understanding that God's grace which sanctified the living believer continues to work in their consecrated remains after death. The Orthodox have a deep love for the saints and expect them to guide and protect them based on numerous experiences throughout life. In essence, they view Christians not as being captive by death but rather overcoming it through faith in Christ.

AI Response is below.

You are welcome. The AI is slow, but patience is a virtue. All love to you as well, brother in Christ.

I will be using the AI more often in some of these theology discussions, and for sake of truthfulness, I will always tell you when a post uses AI-generated content. It may give Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant perspectives, as it has consumed documents from all three main divisions of Christianity.

What did Jesus teach about going to heaven?

Jesus made a clear statement about going to heaven: “No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven” (John 3:13). The New English Translation is even clearer: “No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven—the Son of Man.”

Source: What Is the Real Meaning of the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus?

The purpose of parables is to hide the truth. If you knew the truth you would ignore it anyway, so the truth is hidden. The above parable does not describe the literal truth. Nobody is going to heaven or the hell as we know it. The above parable describes our fate surrounding the time associated with the return of Jesus. The Christians from poor lands will enter the kingdom of heaven on Earth. They are not going to heaven-heaven.
