I have always been taught that the hebrew word for associate (amiyth) in Zech 13:7, translated in the hebrew means "equal."

"and against the man, My associate.."

I have learned that this verse is showing how the Messiah will be the God-man, since the hebrew word for amiyth means equal.

I looked it up on blueletterbible.org and it says the definition for amiyth is:
1) relation, neighbour, associate, fellow.

So how does this word mean equal? (please excuse me for not being very knowledgeable on both the hebrew and greek words in the bible).

PS: sorry for starting two threads, and for asking too many questions :(.

You go right ahead and keep on asking those questions!

The word does mean a friend or associate, but that does imply equality. It's only used a few times in Scripture, though.

It's one of these many verses in the OT that doesn't prove much about Jesus, but is totally consistent with what the NT teaches. It's probably a bit hard to derive from the verse the idea of Messiah being equal with God.
