The Heart of Worship

T A K E F I V E DEVOTIONALS
by David McQueen

Have you ever been in a situation of communal worship when you didn't actually feel part of the worship service? People were singing around you, raising hands or even silent, but you just could not share in the experience? Something inside felt hollow and empty either because you felt unworthy to be standing in the presence of God or you felt disturbed because the singing did not really bear your testimony?

I remember being in a worship service recently where the music for me was too loud, and it seemed like it was more about the worship leaders and their vocal ability than worshipping God. Not that their song was not of any merit but at that time I had to leave the building and walk outside just to share with God my songs, share my testimony.

Three songs with extermemly powerful lyrics came to mind as I left the building, they summed uyp my testimony that morning. They were as follows:

Daryl Coley ""When the Music Stops""
""When the music stops, that's when I sing my song...When we've said amen, and the crowd begins to fade away
That's when I live the life I sing about in my song""

Matt Redman ' Heart of Worship'

""King of endless worth, No one could express How much you deserve,Though I'm weak and poor, All I have is yours, Every single breath""

and Great is thy Faithfulness

""Great is Thy faithfulness, O God My Father There is no shadow of turning with Thee Thou changes not Thy compasions, they fail not As thou has been thou forever will be""

Often we can get caught up in the liturgy, traditions and ritualism of worship and forget to worship Jesus. Our worship in the week is truly magnified when we come together to fellowship. I pray that we never forget to whom and why we are worshipping, the heart of our worship. Jesus.

Today I encourage you to take time out to whisper a silent prayer asking God to direct you to what is the heart of worship. Stay blessed.
