I"ve long been worried about the cost of green power basically the level of certainty of Global Warming and the cost of going green.

One green energy proposal would be to reduce fuel imports by fitting domestic photo voltaic solar panels.

The trade deficit last year due to fuel imports was 300 billion dollars.

The cost of the Afghan + Iraq wars to maintain our bargaining power in the World is expected to come out around 4.5 Trillion dollars or so.

The cost of home installations of solar panels to produce 62 percent of all electricity consumed would be 2.33 Trillion.


Electricity is the form 40% of all consumption takes so the overall reduction would be 25% of all energy consumed per year which would take a big chunk out of the 39% we import, we could stop importing from the Middle East entirely who could then sell to other countries.

Over the decade it would prove more effective than our wars in the Middle East and make us fewer enemies.

25% of 300 billion is 75 billion which would repay the cost in 32 years, but solar panel production on that scale is expected to reduce the cost a lot, so recovering the cost should be under 15 years. Also the money is spent domestically and not abroad. And it saves on wars, it is cheaper than our present wars.


Forget the question of Global Warming, Green will cost less than Donald or Hillary.

Overall solar farms come out less expensive than lots of rooftop installations at small levels of contribution.

And the difference grows as the total amount of rooftop installations increase the distribution system has to be increased to carry the solar peak power back to the grid, whereas the solar farm will normally be built near a big grid node or at least can be connected with a single power line.

With that technology for the cost of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars we could be completely self sufficient on energy, and have fewer enemies.
