  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Interesting topic... I have a challenge for everyone here. I would like to see just one instance in the Bible where the Sabbath is defined as what we call Saturday. I guess you would have to establish sunday as the first day of the week but I don't see that in the bible either. Perhaps Wednesday is the true Sabbath???

Please prove me wrong. I have no problem with that. I don't remember where I first heard this but I have not been able to find anything to disprove it.

This is another unfounded accusation concerning Constantine. There are numerous records from the Early Church fathers concerning Sunday worship. The ancient Didache certainly addresses it, as well as Ignatius, Tertullian, Cyprian as well as others well in advance of even the birth of Constantine, from the 1st century through the 4rth.

I guess if we wanted to know the true Sabbath, we would have to figure out the exact day, month, and year of the first day of creation and count off by seven....

Saturday, Sunday, what's the difference?

The point, apparently, is that God is extremely technical about things. In fact, He's so technical as to consider the whole sabbath thing THE most important issue in the world. It is God's will that one breaks free from other denominations and found a new one on the opinion that the week starts on sunday. Man is pretty much out of tune with God because so many of us are running one day behind.

The Jews are the tribe of Judah the only existing tribe left identifiable. If they say the seventh day commences on Friday evening I believe them.
And I suppose that means we shouldn't eat on the Sabbath (whenever that is) or eat meat w/dairy?

Why does it matter? Love the Lord and love your neighbor as yourself.

The Bible says, "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God." Work 6 days, take the seventh off. It does NOT say work Sunday thru Friday, and take off Saturday. It also does NOT say work Monday thru Saturday, and take off Sunday. It just says take off every seventh day and devote it to the Lord. In the western culture, that means Sunday.

in the western culture we work seven days a week!

As for western christians the lords day was not meant to replace the sabbath, it is the fullfilment of the sabbath, I know a lot of fellowships dont worship on a saturday but saturday worship should not have been abandond by these fellowships, the lords day was not meant to replace the sabbath but to co-incide with it.

As for knowing when the sabbath is, traditionaly it is the friday evening to saturday evening.. if you want to take the risk and say its really a wednesday thats upto you, but I will trust the practice of saturday worship of the jews and sunday worship of the christians as the first and last days of the week

Some more scripture. Of course it's Paul, so you know.....

Colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:Colossians 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Take it over to The Message, it says it this way:

Col 2:16 So don't put up with anyone pressuring you in details of diet, worship services, or holy days.

Col 2:17 All those things are mere shadows cast before what was to come; the substance is Christ.

Pauls point is, we are not to argue on anything that does not involve salvation. The shadow of all of the Old Testament points to Yeshua, He is Lord of the sabbath, that was His point when He kept getting yelled at for healing on the sabbath, and plucking grain, etc. Gods' grace has replaced the Law, Yeshua fulfilled it.

So, in other words you believe Saturday is the day of The Sabbath?

You know why I'm comfortable with a Sunday Sabbath? The Bible says: "Work six days and take the seventh off and devote it to me". (pp. Exodus 20:8-9) The names of the days aren't mentioned. In instituting the Sabbath, God was instructing the Israelites not to caught up in the daily grind but to take a day off and devote it to the Lord. Sunday is my day off.

If some group of people in the jungle got behind in their calendar and they ended up celebrating the Sabbath on a Wednesday, I don't think God would throw a hissy fit.

I posted the original commandment from the Ten Commandments. It says nothing about Saturday, Sunday, or their Hebrew equivalents.

The original command says nothing about keeping accurate records or about names of days. It just says "work six days, take the seventh off and devote it to me".

If the exact day were so important, why haven't more people heard from God on this issue?
