Interesting article on homosexuality: http://www.sobran.com/columns/1999-2001/010419.shtml

Thoughts from both a Christian and atheist perspective?

Cheers!

Why do people need to post this kind of junk here? Why don’t I just go the KKK main page and give you some links? Cheers are you kidding me? This is not cheery this is down right repulsive.

But no parent is glad to learn his son is “gay”; no parent would wish that condition on a child.

What kind of selfish, sexist junk is this? Last time I check children have there own feelings, they don’t get issued them when they are 18. Teenagers will have urges even if they are once that you happen to disagree with. We have a responsibility when we have children (or for those that already have children) to support them. A person being gay is not a reflection of anything you did nor will it ever be. It is an expression of personal interest. Let’s just entertain, for a second, the idea that homosexuality is a choice, if that is the case I would highly doubt that a person would choice to be homosexual just to make mom and dad feel bad. The fact remains that it is not a choice and people that come out simply want to be accepted for whom they are, and if parents can’t accept there own son or daughter for who they are then, I hate to be so blunt but they had no business having children in the first place.

One Love.

I think that he might have been better off if he was actually to show some evidence of homosexuality being a sickness, rather than just repeating the idea that it is. I support his right to free speech but he should try to actually back up his assertions, it might be a tad bit embarassing for him if his firm stance on homosexuality as a sickness was shown to be a lie.

On top of that I have to wonder what experience he has had actually studying homosexuality, from a psycho- or neuro-logical standpoint. It's bad enough that he doesn't back up his assertions, but to not have any knowledge or experience about it himself is even worse, to me. One reason I prefer to steer clear of discussions about homosexuality. I don't know enough about it scientifically to make any kind of remark.

Still, like CS said, he has the right to speak his mind. I just wish people would inform themselves about what they're speaking against before they do so (though I'm not entirely sure how informed he is).

My own feelings are intensified by personal experience.

I'm not sure what the authors experience is but it seems to be that a child of his was molested. He has projected this hatred of the perpatrator onto all homosexuals and then projected his own feelings onto the rest of the world.

Normal people find homosexuality, especially male homosexuality, repellent.

Normal people. i.e. Everyone who thinks like me. A very dangerous way to think. I also find the especially oddly telling.

The guy has serious issues, probably for good reason, but asking his opinion on homosexuality is like asking Frank Castle for his opinion on the death penalty. [/comic book reference

I don't think it was particularly well written, and I disagree with nearly every point. I also think that a lot of the arguments and examples that he uses are flawed or false.

But this is a free country, and he's allowed to speak his mind.

Not a terribly impressive rant.

Same basic rhetoric of hate you see on bigger better done hate sites like the Family Research Council and NARTH. This guy has obviously read these hate sites and copied some of their more popular lies…the lie that homosexuals are pedophiles is particularly prominent.

Of interest is this fruitcakes tacit support of racism and sexism. “Homophobia is one of those ugly cant-words — like racist and sexist — that no self-respecting speaker of the English language would use.”

The guy is just a small minded bigot…disgusting and twisted…

Thoughts from a gay Christian perspective...
Sobran makes a lot of assumptions and generalisations. First of all, he is talking about rape, yet calls it homosexuality. We don't automatically hate heterosexuals and ban heterosexual sex just because some straight men rape women. I can understand why he'd be angry at the person who raped the child he refers to, but he has no right to lump gay people in with that person. It's not a "gay" issue. It's a case of rape. He also assumes that all gays are promiscuous and have anal sex with strangers. Yes, that is the case with some gays, but not all... and some straight people do the same thing... and we don't automatically condemn all straights for the foolishness of some.
