  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We are warned in 1 Timothy 4:1-2:
"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron."
And in 2 Thessalonians 2:3
"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first..." 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV).

The term 'falling away', or as it is called in some texts, 'apostasy' means; to depart from revealed truth, to lead away, seduce, mislead; to defect, to blind the eyes of the people by manipulating the truth; to turn one from the truth by lying signs and wonders.

In Matthew, chapter 24 and verses 4-12, the Lord Jesus Christ specifically warns all about this time which is coming and there are many people still waiting for it to happen. Their eyes have been blinded to all that has happened over the past 20 years, and in fact, is still happening. They have been desensitized to what they can see right in front of their faces; so much so that they can no longer discern right from wrong, the holy from the unholy, the pure from the profane. Television assails us with violence, all manner of adultery and sexual immorality, foul language and the so-called 'alternative' lifestyles. The music of today spews out a message of hatred of all that is clean, pure and orderly. Gang violence is glorified. Rebellion is the norm and with the exception of a few courageous souls, people seem to be willing to turn their heads and look the other way. The sixties was a time of extremes, many of which were also evil and corruptive, but at least the people of that era had the guts to speak out and even demonstrate against those things that they felt were wrong.

Many men and women of God have indeed spoken out against the movement from the pits of Hell which has invaded the Body of Christ like a cancer, yet the majority of people keep right on following their 'blind guides'; those who call themselves pastors, leaders of the church, or even, shepherds of the flock. No one appears to have any fear of either the Lord, or of Hell any longer. The Word of God clearly tells us that millions of those who claim to be Christian will stand before God and be truly surprised when Jesus says to them, "Away from Me, I never knew you." These people will plead their cases to Him and tell Him of all of the great and wonderful things they did in His Name, but though they may have fooled the masses while they were on earth, they cannot and will not be able to fool the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The place to be is not always where the crowds are gathering. We must remember it is the wide road that leads to destruction and Hell and there will be many who follow it.

It is the narrow path that leads to everlasting life, and there will be few that find it. (See Matthew 7:13-14.)

Do you think the apostasy has already happened? I don't. I think it will be a massive future event that will be noticed by the world. I think maybe times will get so hard it will cause those with weak faith to quit.

I'm convinced that the church before the reformation was in apostasy. The things that were going on in the 1300-1500's in the name of Christ were every bit as bad as the worse one can think of happening.

So I do think there will be an other apostasy as well. It might be starting now, or it might not. I'm probably too close to what is happening today to know for sure. Also we tend to pick our local church scene and not the church all around the world to judge and if scripture prophesies something it isn't going to be about an American church but about the church as a world organism.

I've stopped trying to understand what the world will look like when Jesus returns.
I accepted most of what was said the 70's form people like Hal Lindsey. But they were so wrong about how the prophesy's were at that time that I really have a hard time listening to them today. Because they sound even more wrong about this world today than they were back then!

I think the next big Bible event to be fulfilled is the 3rd seal, a world wide famine. A famine like that can happen anytime. But till that happens I don't have any passion to put my effort there.

I hear ya. I can hardly listen to any of the preachers I grew up listening to because they are teaching carp. And since I have changed my view of the rapture, I can hardly listen to any of them because a lot of them are pre-tribbers and I'm not anymore.
A world wide famine sounds scary. I suddenly felt unprepared when I read that. But that could also cause a lot of people to give up on God if they don't have food and water. Do you think I should by some of those army meals that last for years? I can't get into stock piling. I am trying to get rid of stuff and I am not sure having all that food would guarantee anything if you had to leave your home. You couldn't take it all with you. Guess I will just have to trust God on this one.

Do you really want to live in that world? I would rather just go ... and graduate to the next life. I won't be stocking up...

and how many freeze dried meals would you buy?...they are expensive and take up a lot of room...and would you really hoard them from your friends and neighbors?...so they would be gone really quickly

Naw, I sure don't. I don't really want to be here for that but I suspect I don't have a choice in the matter. I only have mini trials in my life at the moment (with my teenager) and I feel like I can't breathe. I can't imagine how I would fare if I did not have food, but again, I cannot become a food hoarder.

Definetly, the falling away has and is occurring...and will continue to gain in strength. Polls now show that 40% of Church Goers claim Christ isn't the ONLY way to God and even more see the book of Genesis as not literal. A good many Church Goers see the Ressurection of Christ as not being literal. You cant get much more heretical than these examples.

As time goes forward, there will be many many more lukewarm Christians coming about ...the kind that Jesus said he would spit out of his mouth in Revelation chapter 2 because there weren't strong in their convictions and sided with worldly philosophies.

As the worlds philosophies take greater root with our American Christian Chruches, we can expect greater apostasy coming about to the point where things like sexual immorality will be talked about openly in our Pews as no big deal . Just stay tuned.

Yes. It's lawlesness, not doing what God says in His Word. He who loves Me will keep My commandments. A lot of people only want to hear about grace and 'love', not about sin and taking up your cross and dying for Jesus. The church in the West has to wake up. The foolish virgins didn't keep His Word, they didn't have His agape Love, which is not the same as the love the world has. If you love God you hate evil and the things of the world.

Yes. Thanks. We live in a time when Christians are so short sighted when it comes to Gods character, nature, and his written words of instructions and warnings. Everybody wants the 'meek n mild Jesus' and not the Jesus who is equally just . What a rude awakening many Church Goers are in for.

I think that the great apostasy spoken about in 2nd Thessalonians is going to be noticed world wide. I think it will me a mass exodus type of apostasy not the gradual erosion that has also been happening. But that is just speculation on my part because of how I read the text.

The love will grow cold, they will hate one another.
Just found this:
The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
